Travelling daughter.
My daughter left for Thailand today. 2 months until we see her again. She decided it was time to go backpacking. After 10 days in a health resort on the Thai coast, she heads for Bangkok, then Laos, Cambodia and Northern Thailand. Hopefully she can leave messages on Facebook so we know she’s ok.
She’s also taking time out from Luka. He’s a quiet, introverted type who lives for his music. He plays bass guitar in various groups. But I don’t think he gives enough to their relationship, from what Melissa told me. He was quite upset when she left tonight, as he is scared she may meet someone else. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Melissa had only just come back from Dubai. She was in the top 30 travel agents for her company, and got an all expenses paid trip to Dubai as her reward. She stayed at the Atlantis, which looks magnificent on their website.
I’ve spent the last month booking our trip to Canada and US. We leave on May 2nd, spend a couple of days in Vancouver, then 7 nights cruise to Alaska, back to Vancouver for a couple of days again, then 2 nights on the Rocky Mountaineer to Jasper where we spend 2 nights. Bus to Banff where we spend 3 nights, with a day trip to Lake Louise. On to Calgary where we fly out to Washington DC for 4 days. So many museums to see there and I know 4 days won’t be enough time. After that we fly out to New York but only have a couple of hours at the airport before flying to South Africa. Meet up with Melissa and Evan in Johannesburg, then a 7 day trip to Victoria Falls. Stopping at Kruger National Park on the way. Lots of animals to see hopefully. We also have a Lion Encounter Safari while in Livingstone. Then leave for home on June 5th. Totally exhausted no doubt.
Husband doesn’t know we’re doing South Africa. He thinks we’re going to Morocco. Nor does he know about Washington DC. I wonder why he doesn’t realise we’re away for 5 weeks, but I’ve only mentioned things we’re doing up until 20th May. I’ll have to video his reactions when I tell him in Calgary that we’re not heading home.
Evan shaved all his lovely curls off last week on ‘shave for a cure’ day. He had a few people sponsor him, with the proceeds going to the Leukemia Foundation. I wonder how long before it all grows back, and will he still have curls?
I got a text message this morning from my niece. Her dad is the brother I have concerns about re Alzheimers. He has an assessment mid April and I had to give some family information. My grandfather had dementia but I think it was brought on by him being forced to retire. He was still working as a miner at 70, but once he was made to retire, he went downhill mentally. That was what happened to my brother, although he was made redundant at 55 and has been affected ever since. I’m glad something is finally being done.
Family photo taken when they all visited on 7th March. I posted it on Facebook so Luka’s mum could see it. She misses him a lot.
Well that’s about it. I have to start packing soon. Stuff like cameras, medicines and toiletries. Before I know it May 2nd will be here.
Bye………..
I hope you have a lovely time. I wouldn’t have recommended Morocco!
