Rain and locusts.

As I write this the rain is pouring down. We’ve gone from drought to floods in the blink of an eye. We had hail a few days ago and the outside temperature was 21C. I was dressed in shorts and hail was falling! Weird weather.
Wagga Wagga, which is 2 hours drive north of us, has evacuated some parts of town because of the rising river. NSW was 90% in drought not that long ago and now is half flooded.
Each time the rain stopped the weather turned extremely humid, bringing hordes of mosquitoes which just love biting me. But I did find a cream that seems to repel them for a change. They are so bad I had to get a guy to spray in and around the house to keep them away as they’re not just here at dusk, but all during the daylight hours.
We also have a plague of locusts, although not quite as bad where I live. All the cars have netting over the grill to stop the locusts blocking up the radiator. We came home after a drive Sunday and had to spend a while scrubbing them off the windscreen and grill. One of my dogs is having a ball chasing them around the garden. But we haven’t had them as thick as other areas.
Husband had an MRI last week and has a follow up with the specialist on the 20th to see what can be done to help with the pain in his back. Nothing can be done for the pain in his neck. (Me!) I surely hope they can do something for him.
The painter finally came and did around the new windows and we are getting our new vertical blinds tomorrow morning. And even better is the fact they made a mistake in the quote and it’s $200 cheaper! Didn’t think much of the painter though, and he won’t be coming to do the rest of the house. We got another guy to come give us a quote for the kitchen and his whole manner was so different from the 1st guy. I hope he can do it before Christmas.
Just to think husband used to do all the painting before he hurt his back and now I have to pay people to do it. I don’t know why he didn’t do it as a career as he was so good at it.

I had to stop writing last night as there were more storms and my wireless internet kept dropping out.
Nothing much has changed since last night except the rain has been on much of the day and my garden has disappeared under the deluge. Water everywhere. My next door neighbour is even worse off than me. The guy next door to her built up his land then concreted it and now she gets his rain water too.
Floods all over Australia now because of the severe weather. I feel for the farmers as they have been hit with drought, flood and then locusts. They were expecting bumper harvests before the rain, humidity and locusts. Not now though.
I took some photos yesterday when the garden wasn’t too water logged.

Got my blinds today and they look very nice. Since we got the new windows I’d only been able to put some sheets up while waiting for the painter to finish them off. Thank goodness that’s all over.
Evan’s old school friend who murdered a girl, last month pleaded guilty finally. I think he was trying to blame his reaction to alcohol for what happened and wanted to call 7 witnesses to back it up. But it wasn’t allowed and the local magistrate advised him to plead guilty as the case against him was strong. Also a guilty plea gets a 25% sentence reduction. Not being familiar with the law, I don’t know what happens next except he has an arraignment in Sydney Supreme court in 2 weeks.
I pass his house each day and still can’t believe what he did.
I got my first Christmas card today and it was from Luka’s parents. It’s in Polish of course but they added a few words in English. I sent them one with a few words in Polish. I hope it makes sense because when we exchange message on Facebook, it’s not always 100% translatable but we understand each other mostly.
Only a few weeks to Jan 1 when we fly to Sydney for a week. I just hope the rain has gone by then but the long range forecast is for lots of rain. I hope not as the flooding is bad enough just now in some towns. Not a nice Christmas for some people.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a locust! We’ll be getting floods like that when the snow melts! I’ve heard that there is a product made by Avon that is really good at repelling mosquitos.

So that’s before your garden got waterlogged? ! We got a small lake again last night but it’s not as bad as last week. I think most of it missed us this time. I’ve no complaints about that!

I agree with you in one sense – for some, an early death would be the easy way out. I also htink they should be given every chance to repent. I cannot understand how CHristians advocate the death penalty.

It is the most perplexing year. I can still vividly go back to Black Saturday here in Victoria. And yet last week our local creek flooded more than it has ever been. We havent had swarms, but I have seen the odd locust in my backyard and in the kids school ground. Strange days indeed. Have a great christmas.
