September Song
The days here have been miserable; temperatures soaring into the high 90`s, with 100% humidity. The cats lie in soggy heaps on the porch, their furry sides panting with the exertion of just breathing, too exhausted to chase the rabbits and lizards that live in the woods.
This afternoon brought a little relief in the way of a short rain shower. I sat on the front steps sipping pecan coffee, my bare feet under the drip of rain from the roof. The thunder rumbled in the distance, as the faintest cool breeze stirred the lifeless trees; all too soon it was gone. The weatherman predicts that next week will be cooler, with highs only in the low 90`s.
Church was good this morning; I am continuing to teach the women’s class, and next Sunday I will also start an evening class for ladies. I’m calling it "A Woman After God’s Own Heart." Each time God teaches me something new, it is always my favorite; this newest one is no exception. I think it might be one of the most profound lessons that He has impressed on me. I’ll be speaking from I and II Samuel, about why King David was a man after God’s own heart, and how we as women can learn from the characteristics that David exhibited. I covet your prayers, as I minister to a different group of ladies that have different expectations. It is always a challenge, but I know it’s something I’m called to do.
Summer will start her new job in Labor and Delivery on Tuesday. She has been on vacation the past two weeks, and has loved spending her days and nights just being a mom to Emmi. Tay still does not have a job, and I continue to ask your prayers on his behalf. He interviewed with the Department of Labor last week, and should hear back from them sometime this week. Meanwhile, I am free to keep Emmi whenever I like.
She is six months old now, such a happy and animated baby, an absolute joy. She has come through her "purple" stage and no longer has the long periods of broken hearted sobbing and screaming. Those are a thing of the past; however, she is currently teething, and some days are hard for her. She is learning to sign, and can sign "milk" appropriately. Many other signs she recognizes, but can’t physically perform. She says "mama" , but mostly she speaks in dove or bobcat languages, which none of us happen to speak. We think she must have been some sort of animal liaison in heaven, because she speaks animal languages so fluently! She can sit alone, and is currently trying to figure out this crawling thing.
My precious Lydia (remember her?) has been between baby-sitters recently, and I was thankful that I was free to help out by keeping her. She has grown from a beautiful happy baby into a beautiful happy toddler. She and I have spent several days together, playing, having tea parties, reading and watching Veggie Tales. She continues to be a delight, and I am blessed to be a small part of her life.
Sissy and I stay busy working on our hobby-business, which I haven’t written about here. She and I make hand-crocheted scarves, hats, gloves, headwraps, baby items, jewelry, etc. We have a booth in a local flea market, but it’s not really a good venue for the items that we craft. One of our friends who is a jewelry-maker has invited us to show our items at some of her jewelry shows, and we have actually done pretty well. Our next big show is just before Christmas, so we are busy finishing our newest fall and winter collections.
I just completed a collection of scarves called "Spice Market" and another collection called "Southwest;" I’m currently working on a "Cinema" collection and Sissy is working on a "Gemstone" collection. Each collection contains 5-10 scarves, and each scarf is lovingly named. Half the fun is creating them, and the other half is the fun of naming them! We don’t expect to get rich, but our goal right now is to earn enough to rent a cabin for our families and siblings in January, to spend a weekend together in the mountains.
And that is where I find myself on this warm sticky evening, on the front side of September, awaiting the cooling rains of autumn. I am so blessed; God has shown me so much favor, and has gifted me with the things in life that matter. I thank you for walking this journey with me, and look so forward to what lies ahead, just around the next bend.

Dearest Gina, Samuel I & II are two of my favourite books of Scripture. For 10 yrs of a very bad marriage, I held I Samuel: 25 and Abigail, close to my heart… till our Father finally gave me a David of my own to love, and be loved by. So much of my Faith was built by these two books, I know the Lord will open your eyes to see the wealth of life & love in these chapters as you teach your ladies.

cute pics of the little ones.. I love the owl hats…. what a hoot…. RYN: We also get Mountain chickadees here, beside black-capped chickadees. The mountain chickadees have a white stripe through the eye…but otherwise seem very similar to the black-capped..
