Legend has it …
About 2 weeks after we moved to this hole in the wall town, I was informed about a legend. In the weeks and months to come, others would also recite this legend. Hubby heard about it from co-workers also. I’m a firm believer in "Old Wives Tales" because I’ve seen most of them work with my own eyes. I’ve not had much experience with legends though. Maybe they are the same thing?
Anyway, legend has it that way back when (no one knows exactly when) a Medicine Man put a protection around this city to protect it from tornadoes. One person told me that he has lived here all of his 40+ years and one has never touched down in the town. He said there had been numerous that touched down all around the town, but never IN the town. Granted, the town has only like a 5 mile radius lol but for him, it is enough to confirm the legend of the Medicine Man. Pretty much everyone that has recited the legend is a firm believer in it.
Me, I’m a firm believer in God and the power of prayer. I have some of the most awesome Prayer Warriors in this world that I am very thankful for. They went to bat for The Child when she had her leg ordeal and what had started out as a serious, serious situation/operation turned into a miracle that could have only been performed by God. It took roughly 12 hours for my Prayer Warriors to turn that situation around for us.
Last year, living in Oklahoma City, OK, they went to work for us again. Numerous times I asked for their help on FB and/or via text messages. We only had to go into our storm shelter once. Those that have been reading me for years may remember an entry I did where I mentioned a re-occuring dream about being caught in a tornado. That is one of my biggest fears, (next to spiders of course LOL), that I will experience a tornado. Thanks to God and to my Prayer Warriors, I have been lucky thus far.
So living in Tornado Alley keeps my anxiety levels high lol. But did we luck out with this small town? According to legend we did …
Now, according to the US National Weather Service branch here in town, the legend is just a legend and there is nothing scientific to back it up. The Child’s Girl Scout Troop recently did a 3 week course with them and I attended and learned some very neat stuff. Anyway, one of the Mom’s had asked about the legend and after he finished shaking his head, he informed us of his opinion lol. But as I said, I believe in God and stranger things have been known to happen because of Him …
Case in point … the recent weather this state has been having. May 7 saw a wicked thunderstorm for our little town. I even caught a picture of it with my iPhone …
(all the white specks are hail falling from the sky)
Since then we’ve had a few more storms roll in but they’ve all stayed outside the city limits. But the clouds have been amazing …
The 1st two pictures, the iPhone did not do the colors justice. I was in complete awe of all those beautiful colors! I also caught lightening in the first of the 2 pictures – that is why it looks so white in the center compared to the next picture. The last picture of the mamatus clouds were cool to look at. I posted it on FB asking people what animal they saw lol.
About 5 minutes after I posted that cloud picture, the USNWS here in town posted a similar one.
And then, here is where I get a bit "unclear" on the Legend … yesterday storms were brewing all over the state. In fact, most of the mid-west was under a severe weather alert. I could hear the thunder rumbling, the weather alert radio went off voicing it’s watches and warnings. So The Child & I prepared our little room under the staircase just in case (which, ugh, the drama). I had secured everything outside, I was ready #LikeABoss!!! LMAO I kept waiting … and I kept waiting … and I was seeing all these different reports … and I was waiting … and my blood pressure was probably 150/200 lol … and then I took this screen shot of the weather radar map …
We are the blue/green dots.
:::scratches head:::
So there you go. Is that enough scientific proof for Mr. Larry or not? Is that the stuff legends are made of? Regardless, thank you, Lord, for keeping the tornadoes away! Again, I have awesome Prayer Warriors!! ♥
About 5 minutes after I posted that on FB, the USNWS posted a similar map also. Seriously Mr. Larry? Are you stalking me? LOL If I didn’t know better, I’d say you were!! But since he isn’t on my FB friend’s list, and nothing of my FB is posted as public except my profile and cover pictures, well, how does he know what I am posting? LOL But seriously, creepy Dude.
I detected a bit of an interest from him during the 4 times I was there with The Child. He seems like a very nice guy, he has a kind heart. He’s very passionate in what he does. He’s the branch manager at this location. When we first got there, it was like walking into a reunion of Revenge of the Nerds. LOL I don’t say that in a mean way, but just to give you an idea of the surroundings lol. But Mr. Larry did seem to pay a tad bit more attention to me and my questions. He was even concerned about our weather radio not working properly and offered to come look at it. The Child and I took it to him after school one day lol I don’t know what he did to it but that radio is working big time. I probably have frequencies on there that should not be public knowledge lol. The Child hates it. Because when it goes off for an alert, it goes off. Enough that one night, while eating dinner, Cocoa got a bonus treat when The Child & I both flung food off our forks when the alarm on it went off! LOL I don’t know who threw farthest, but it was funny!
But seriously Mr. Larry, even if we both weren’t married, I wouldn’t look at you in that way. First, you are too brain smart for me. As much as I am interested in your field of study, and I could learn a lot from you, at the end of theday, there is no way I could keep up with you mentally. Second, have you seen me? Uhm, hello … middle aged, overweight person sitting here. I am no catch by any means lol. For example …
Sure I can "glam" it up for the camera, using all the posing/lighting tricks of the photography trade. But on any regular day, I am at my best when my hair is up in a messy bun, no makeup, wearing my Redneck Trailer Park White Trash Going To Walmart Clothes – if I even bother to get out of my jammies. Just ask those who know me in real life! LOL I know I’ll never win any beauty pageants! So thanks for the flattery, Mr. Larry, but no thanks.
I’ll leave you with just one last picture. I took it at the same time I took the above picture. It is by far the most favorite picture I have ever taken. I think it is so cool. My mother disagrees but she doesn’t have an artistic bone in her body so what does she know?!! Anyway, I will add that the picture is untouched, other than to add my photography logo to it. There are no filters, no actions, no blemish removals, no touch ups of any kind done to it. It is my eye, in all its 42 year old glory LOL
Don’t ask why it is my favorite picture of all time … it just is … and don’t bother to ask why I would even take a picture of just my eye. All I can say, is that it seemed to be the thing to do at the time lol.
Till next time …
Nice entry 🙂

I believe in the power of prayer also and I’m glad that you’ve been kept safe from the storms and hope you continue to be safe. And girl…you are beautiful 🙂 I love your hair wish I had that much.

I miss seeing your face! I’m just glad you’re safe. I did tell Trent that we won’t live anywhere that we have to have a weather radio though…I would pee my pants every time that thing went off.

I hope the storm passes us today. It’s supposed to get nasty.
