What could’ve been
So MIL and FIL are both coming for Hubby’s retirement. They fly in close to 10pm on this coming Wednesday night. Ugh. Oh well, at least they are coming. Hubby still doesn’t know that his Dad will be coming. He is still moping around thinking he’s not coming. Can’t wait to see his face when both of his parents walk through the gate. That is if I don’t end up blowing the surprise. I’ve come close, by accident, a few times but so far so good.
He’s still baffled that Phil & Sharla are staying in billeting. He keeps repeating over & over "But we have the room for them. They don’t need to waste money when they can stay with us." LOL Well, it’ll all be clear come Wed. night.
So in case I haven’t mentioned our itinerary enough let us just review it one more time …
– Sept. 12 – Hubby’s parents fly in that night. I will spend the day washing bed linen, buying groceries, and last minute cleaning.
– Sept. 13 – Phil and Sharla arrive around the time The Child gets home from school. All 7 of us will be attending the State Fair that evening also. Hubby & The Child are anxious to go to it and that is basically the only free time we have to be able to go, even though we really don’t have the free time to go. At least I don’t have to cook for 7 people that night lol
– Sept. 14 – Hubby’s Retirement Ceremony
– Sept. 15 – The Child’s mini-birthday party with 5 of her closest friends & Grandma & Papaw
– Sept. 16 – Phil and Sharla leave. We pack our suitcases and separate all of the stuff we will be keeping with us for the move so that the movers don’t pack it up (like dishes, food, camping chairs/table, etc)
– Sept. 17 – Packers arrive to start the packing process. Hubby’s Parents fly out this day also.
– Sept. 18 – Packers finish up all the packing
– Sept. 19 – Moving truck arrives and all of our stuff will be loaded (except for what we are keeping with us) and head to Kansas. We will spend the night loading up the vehicles, sweeping & vacuuming and getting the house ready for final inspection the next day.
– Sept. 20 – We turn in the keys to this base house. Hubby has his final out-processing appointment to sign out from this base. We dis-enroll The Child from her school.
– Sept. 21 – We head to Kansas. We do a walk through of our house we are purchasing. We check into our hotel for the night.
– Sept. 22 – We move into our house we are purchasing and rent starts accruing until closing.
– Sept. 24 – Hubby starts his new job. I enroll The Child for her new school (which is also a teacher work day) but only after the Cable/Internet has been installed that morning.
– Sept. 25 – The Child starts her new school. After which I will proceed to have a much earned, much needed, much deserved nervous breakdown. And then I will sleep till the first one makes it home. LOL
All I have left to do before Wednesday is pack up my jewellery, candles, toys, and anything aerosol/liquid (body wash/sprays, lotions, etc) back into the hiding places I used for the move out here – empty purses, winter coat pockets and shoes LOL and take down the curtains. I hate having to do that (take the curtains down) before my company arrives but I want to wash them and pack them nice and neat instead of messy, wrinkly balls that the packers would turn them into by just stuffing them into a box.
The loan company is giving us a major headache. They want duplicates and triplicates of everything we’ve already sent them lol. I feel like we’ve spent the week jumping through hoops signing more paperwork & emailing crap to them. The latest (and supposedly LAST item they want) issue is that they need "official documentation" of Hubby’s retirement date and pay. They need to know when he will get his first retirement check and how much it will be. So hopefully Hubby can get that on Monday morning – because you know they called and requested it at 4:30pm today, a Friday afternoon.
I’m still raising cane with the Realtor about the hardwood flooring underneath the fridge. I want to make sure there is no damage done to it from the leak and that it is able to dry out properly so that mold will not grow in it. The Realtor thinks I’m just being OCD over it. Maybe I am. All I know is that there was significant water for it to have made it all the way to the basement. I don’t care if it had only been leaking 12 hours or whatever. There was plenty of water to do damage to the hardwood floor and I refuse to be stuck with damaged and/or moldy flooring. I even told the Realtor that I will provide whatever medical documentation she may need to prove the allergy The Child and I have to mold. I won’t back down on this. I won’t be stuck in a house that I do nothing but sneeze in and am in allergy hell because someone didn’t want to do what was necessary.
Oh, we have another Einstein moment to add to Hubby’s long list: We got our new retirement ID cards a few days ago. Normally it is not an issue. However, it is for us. See Hubby’s official retirement date is 1Nov12 so technically we don’t need the new ID cards till then. But since we are moving to Dodge City and the closest military base is 2.5 hours away, it would be difficult for him to take the day off from work, and keep her out of school for the day trip there and back to get the new ID cards. So to fix that problem, Hubby decides we do it now. Bad thing about that? We no longer have his Active Duty Tricare benefits. Theoretically we still do since he is still technically AD till 1Nov12. But if an emergency happens and we use our ID cards as our proof of insurance (as we have always done in the past), we will automatically have to pay a co-pay because all 3 of our ID’s state "retired" on them. It will be one hell of a red-tape paperwork nightmare to get it all squared away.
So because of this issue with "we are fully covered by Tricare/we are not fully covered by Tricare", I am unable to get my yearly ultrasound and check up for my cysts on my thyroid. I’m not about to pay 20% upfront right now when almost all of our money is tied up in the new house. Which, lets be realistic for a moment … even if anything has changed with the cysts (this is the year for them to have grown), nothing will be done about it anyway. Nothing has been done in the last 4 years up to this point. You all that have been reading me that long know I speak the truth. Two biopsy’s that showed nothing but non-cancerous cells; a radiation uptake scan that showed my thyroid is normal; blood work that likes to piss me off by being hypothyroid at one check-up and then normal at the next check-up only to be back to hypothyroid at the next check-up. Two years ago at my annual ultrasound, both cysts had grown but then hadn’t grown anymore at last years ultrasound. So if history is any indication, this is the year to show growth from them. But we will just wait to find out. Probably after the new year, once our finances are squared away and I go in for my 6 month cholesterol check-up. Provided I have found a local Doctor that takes our Tricare insurance. Otherwise, well, guess I won’t be seeing a Doctor anymore lol.
So those of you that follow me on Facebook may or may not remember a few "I hate the USAF" rants I went on back in May. Well the story behind that is that they were trying to send Hubby on a 6 month deployment. If both he & I had not raised hell over it and he had not retired, he would have left yesterday for it. Yeah. You all know my motto "Absence makes the heart grow fonder". Granted it was damn dirty of his Chief to try to send him on the TDY when he’s only been back from a year in Korea 7 months now. But what we raised hell over was that there were 2 others in his office that qualified for the TDY , one who had not been deployed at all in over 5 years. So after we gave our 2-cents worth, and then his co-workers went to bat for him, the Chief changed his mind & gave the TDY to the one who hadn’t deployed in over 5 years. And boy was his wife pissed!!! LOL I personally didn’t care if he went or not but I knew The Child would. It wasn’t fair to make her miss birthdays/Thanksgiving/Christmas/etc for the 2nd year in a row. She deserves better than that.
And now she will never have to miss a major occasion with him again. And I will never have a deployment again. I need to find myself a job that makes me travel. LOL
So on that note, I will call this a night. Till next time ….
I’m sure he’ll be so surprised! How exciting, and busy for you guys :P.
