Einstein tendencies …
It has become apparent that I am married to Einstein. No, really.
But I will get into that in a minute.
So the first 2 house choices were sold by the day after I posted the links (I went ahead & deleted them). *sigh* After talking with our Realtor, it has become apparent that there are more buyers than sellers in Dodge City. The hell? There’s nothing there! Except factories. So they must be doing a mess load of hiring in the town. Hopefully that will bring in more retail businesses, more specifically a Target with a Starbucks! LOL But still, houses are selling within 10 – 20 days of going on the market. One of those 2 houses received 3 different offers in one day. So I am trying not to get too depressed over it. Hubby is worried that we won’t be able to get a house by the time he has to report to work on the 24th. I told him that if push comes to shove, The Child & I can stay here & he can stay in a hotel there until we can close on a house. But for right now, we still have room to play with so there is no need to panic just yet.
We found a new house that we really like. I informed our Realtor and she said that there is a good chance it will still be available next Saturday when we go up there to house hunt. She said that although it is in a very nice neighborhood, it is not in one of the more desirable neighborhoods so that is why she thinks we might have a chance. The link to this new house is here. The strange thing about this house? Of all the houses I’ve been researching online, this is the first one that I have been able to "picture" our furniture and personal belonging’s in. All the others, I’ve tried to mentally arrange our stuff in the rooms that are pictured, but I just wasn’t able to do so. This house, I immediately could picture everything! So I’m hoping that is a good sign. When we bought a house before, back in 2003, of all the houses we looked at, I could never picture our stuff in it and then I found the perfect house that I could but we weren’t able to buy it at that time. And by some miracle, it was still available 3 months later so I knew then that we were meant to have that house. I’m hoping the same holds true for us for this house on Greenwood.
Hubby wants us to go ahead & put an offer on it now, at the asking price, contingent upon it passing all the VA inspections. The only hesitation I have is my allergy to mold. Even though you may not see mold, I can still smell it (if it is hiding under carpet or flooring, or if it has been painted over) and as long as it is present, I go into a sneezing fit. And the last thing I want to do is to spend stupid amounts of money, out of our own pocket, after the fact to get rid of the mold. I seriously hate my mold allergy but at times like this, it will come in handy. I especially hate when I walk into stores or older business buildings and I immediately start sneezing and people look at me like I’m crazy. I remember one time, when I was in JCPenny, I walked into a clothing section and right off the bat started sneezing. After a couple of minutes I left that area and the sneezing stopped. So I walked back to the first area & sure enough the sneezing started again. I did this 4 times and then went and got a manager and brought it to her attention. Come to find out later on, there had been a bad water leak in that area a while back and apparently they didn’t get all the water vacuumed up and the carpet started molding underneath. So yeah, if you wonder if you have a mold problem, invite me over and I can tell you if you do or not! LOL
You people already know I have issues so don’t be sitting there shaking your head at me! lol
So about Mr. Einstein … Apparently he has no concept of time management. "What has he done now?" you ask? Well let me just tell you … I think I mentioned that friends of ours are coming up for his retirement ceremony. If I didn’t, well, Phil & Sharla, friends of ours we met while living in England, and have kept in touch with ever since, will be driving up from Abilene, TX. Phil is a Chief Master Sergeant (E9) and will be officiating the retirement ceremony. Hubby & I are both honored about that, because Phil didn’t have to take the time out of his busy schedule to do this. So anyway, Hubby set his ceremony date as Sep. 14. Had he discussed it with me, I would have said the 7th. But I wasn’t consulted so there ya go. Phil & Sharla are coming up on the 13th and leaving either the 16th or 17th.
So then we got to discussing the move and when we wanted to do what and it went a little something like this …
Me: "When do you want TMO to come pack us up & ship?"
Hubby: "Probably before the ceremony."
Me: "Ok, call Phil & tell them they will have to stay in a hotel because I promise you Sharla will not stay here having to sleep on an air mattress."
Hubby: "Oh yeah. Ok, then the packers can come the 17th."
Me: "Ok, when do you want to close on a house?"
Hubby: "Probably the 21st so that way we don’t have to stay in a hotel. Besides, I start work on the 24th."
Me: "Ok, when do you want to turn the key in to this house?"
Hubby: "Probably the 20th or 21st."
Me: "Well, we can’t be in 2 places at once, 5 hours apart from each other so we’d have to turn the key in on the 20th. Ok, so TMO will pack the 17, & 18 and ship on the 19th, we turn the key in on the 20th, let The Child finish out the school day and then dis-enroll her after school, get a hotel for the night and then drive to Dodge City on the 21st in time to close on the house, and then start our new lives in our new house that night."
Hubby: "Sounds about right."
After some time has passed …
Me: "By the way, the cleaning fee is $275 that we will have to pay to guarantee we pass inspection."
Hubby: "BULLSHIT! We aren’t paying to have this house cleaned! We can do it ourselves!"
Me: "Ok, when?" And then I gave him this look that apparently comes across as you are the dumbest person alive which in turn makes him give me a look that says, what the hell did I fuck up now? Then I proceeded to remind him of all the dates leading up to us moving to Dodge City.
Hubby: "We’ve only been in this house a few months. It won’t be that hard to clean because it isn’t that dirty."
Me: "True. But when do you plan to clean? The last 24 hours before we turn the key in after the movers leave with all of our stuff? I’m not busting my ass to clean! I’m tired of cleaning base houses! And after what I went through with Charleston (which I still have not told him about!), hell no, I’m not cleaning! You want to clean, you be my guest, but I won’t help at all! Mark my words!"
So then I grab up the housing folder and pull out the sheet of cleaning requirements if we pay the cleaning fee and take it to him. "This is the list of things we are responsible for if we pay the cleaning fee, all 10 items." After giving him a few minutes to review it, I then hand him the stack ofpapers, stapled together and say, "And this is what we are responsible for if we don’t pay the cleaning fee and do everything ourselves." Then I walked away (lol). After a few minutes of sifting through the pages he turns to look at me and says, "Do we have that kind of money?" So I gave him my famous DUH! look and tell him, "Yes we do. I knew the minute I signed on the dotted line for this house that we would pay to have it cleaned and have been saving up for it ever since."
Einstein has obviously forgotten that he has not had to clean or at least help clean a base house since we left England, 11 years ago! I did all the cleaning for our base house when we moved into the house we bought at Shaw. I’m the one who had to do all the cleaning, painting, etc. by myself when we left Shaw because he was already at the next base in Charleston. And then, he was in Korea when we left Charleston to come here and because we had to pay $800 to ship his truck, we no longer had the money to have the house cleaned so I had to do all the cleaning by myself on top of everything else I had to do for the move across country. So hell no my fat, lazy ass will not clean this house! My days of cleaning base houses are over. It ain’t gonna happen!
So yeah, we are paying the $275 fee to have the house cleaned so we won’t have to worry about it on top of everything else going on at the same time.
Now I just have to figure out how I am going to pack suitcases, separate items we are keeping with us (cooking/eating utensils, etc.) and what the movers will move and all that fun stuff when we have a full house of people days before the packers come. Because you know Hubby’s Mom is trying to find a cheap plane ticket to come out for the ceremony also. And I will have to give up sleeping with The Child so that his Mom can and I will be couching it all weekend. With Cocoa The Dog sharing the couch with me. Because she will sleep with only me. Oh, and did I mention that Phil & Sharla will be bringing their 3 dogs with them also for that weekend? And we all do remember that I am allergic to dogs right?
Time to hit the alcohol now … till next time ….
