My silver lining …
My one and only silver lining in this move is this … Dodge City, Kansas is not Charleston, SC! It’s not even close to being close to SC! So even though I may not like the idea of moving to Dodge City, it is a hell of a lot better than Charleston, SC. So there is that. My one and only silver lining.
Ugh. I’ve spent most of the day on the phone trying to find a place to rent in Dodge City. Apparently that is not the route God wants us to go. There are 6 apartment complexes in Dodge City. 1 is a retirement complex so that was quickly scratched off the list. 1 is the tax controlled complex so that one was scratched off too. That narrows it down to 4. Two of them have only 1 or 2 studio apartments with no availability as of right now and do not allow dogs. Another one (brand spanking new) had only 1 left for $1100 a month and does not allow dogs. The last one has 3 bedrooms at 904 square feet and does not allow dogs. Do you see where I am going with this? So I called Coldwell Bankers Realty for house rentals. None available but a gentleman may have 1 or 2 opening next month. So I call him. He does not allow dogs either. The Hell? Does Dodge City have this aversion to dogs? UGH! If weren’t for the fact we’ve had the dog almost 8 years, I’d consider giving her away. Especially since I am allergic to her. But Hubby and The Child will not even consider that idea. Which yeah, I can’t either.
So now, our only option is to buy. I so didn’t want to have to buy. Don’t get me wrong, in another time and place, I would be pushing to buy. But not in Dodge City. Now we will have to be tied to living there. Hubby says he’d like to transfer to another location (Ohio) in a few years. But I’m worried how long/difficult it would be to sell it when the time came. That’s why we wanted to rent. But, apparently God is wanting us to buy so that is what we will do. The Realtor will send us the loan application tomorrow & we will e-mail it back and hopefully Thursday we will know how much we qualify for. We’ve already arranged to go up there next Saturday (Aug. 25) to look at houses. Right now there are only 3 in the price range WE want. Just because we will have the money doesn’t mean we have to actually spend it!
Hubby’s 2 choices are: this and this and my choice is this. Although I guess it doesn’t really matter but if we are going to be spending money for the price of an apartment/rental house, we might as well do so living in a decent size house instead of a shoe box or match box. Maybe by next week, a few more will go on the market. There are quite a few in a very much higher price range I’d love to live in but I don’t want to spend the extra money so 1 of those 3 will do the job. And only because I feel this is the way God is directing us.
Speaking of God … Hubby informed me yesterday that once we move to Dodge City I WILL be going back to church. Come again? Don’t get me wrong, I want to get back into church. I miss it. These past 7 months have felt weird not going to church so I’m anxious to get back into it. But for Hubby to TELL me I will be going kinda jacked my jaws. He says it is because he will not have me sitting around the house and not have any friends to socialize with. Wanna run that by me again? You will what? NOT HAVE me sitting around the house? Have you lost your damn mind? You don’t tell me what I will or will not do! I’ve already told you, I’m done with the social scene. I’m not going to know the first person I don’t have to know. I’ll know the doctor and I’ll know the teacher. And that is about it. I don’t need people to validate my existence. I’m happy in my own skin, I like the person I am. I don’t need anyone else. Besides, there isn’t anything to do in the damn town so where would I go to socialize anyway? LOL And let us not forget that I have Facebook lol … I have all the friends a girl could want … online LOL
Hubby informed me today that his official retirement ceremony is scheduled for Sep. 14 and he’s invited friends of ours to drive up for it and stay with us. Which is fine. We’ve known them since England and Phil is a Chief so he will be officiating the ceremony. Which is really nice! But that is the same time frame we need to be packed up & have our stuff moved. So either we wait a few days to be packed up/moved or we have our friends sleeping on the floor in an empty house. Grrrrr. We need to be signed out of this base house by Sep. 21. So way to go putting us in a bind Hubby. As usual, your timing sucks! I’m half tempted to make him go on without us & her & I go up the following week just so we aren’t so rushed. But no, I’ll let him suffer the consequences of his own actions. Lord, give me strength for one more whirlwind move …
Oh, I did inform him today that we would be paying the $275 fee to have the this house cleaned when we move out. He near about went through the roof LOL. I told him I was done cleaning base houses, especially after what I went through with the last base housing office (which he still doesn’t know about). He cussed and fussed for a few minutes and then I handed him the sheet of paper that had 10 items on it that was required of us if we pay the cleaning fee and then showed him the list (5 pages long) of what we had to clean ourselves if we opted not to pay LOL …. looks like we are paying lol … especially if the movers won’t be done until the 19th and we sign out on the 21st … 19 years and he STILL hasn’t learned yet that I know best lol
Ok, I’m calling it a night. Till next time …
It’ll be okay!
