“When Are We Leaving”
A few weeks after I got back from New York a whole bunch of us were hanging out at Eric and Lucinda’s house. In the background the news was on and a segment came up about how somebody claimed to find a whole bunch of gold in a cave somewhere in Utah. When the Government found out, they wanted this guy to reveal where he found it but he wasn’t talking. I guess they were trying to find a loophole in the law so they can take the gold, but legally it belonged to the guy if it was in the area he claimed to have found it which was public land.
I was explaining the law to the others and when they asked why I even knew the law, I proceeded to tell them the story about the gold. They asked if I was going to go up to Vermont next month and dig the gold up with everyone else and I told them I had no plan to. It was too expensive for me to fly and if they did find gold, I’m sure my parents would send some money my way if I was there or not. I did regret the idea of missing the family vacation yet another year. I hadn’t gone to the old place since I moved to Colorado.
Lucinda loved the story and everything about Vermont that I had told her. She always wanted to go and said she would drive. I laughed it off because it was insane. A week before the annual vacation she called me and asked “When are we leaving?”
