“Vegas, Baby! Vegas!”

My parents started taking annual trips to Las Vegas every Autumn to meet up with old friends from school. They called me up and suggested that maybe I could meet them out there. They didn’t quite get the concept of how far Las Vegas was from Denver, but to date, they never came to visit me. This may be the closest thing I got, so I told them that Lori and I would meet them.

It was about an 11 hour drive through the Rocky Mountains. By the time we got there, my Jeep was caked in mud from the slush and snow. It was a little embarrassing driving down ‘the strip’ looking like it did, so we got to our hotel as quickly as we could and parked it for the duration of our trip. We stayed at a cheap hotel, the Lady Luck. It was an upgrade from the last time I was here, but not by much.

The first thing we did was crash for an hour or so, and then we decided to walk down the strip to were my parents were staying, The Luxor. It turns out that the walk was a lot further then we thought it would be and ended up taking the free shuttle. That was the scariest ride I have ever taken. Even worse than the time I took the public bus that stopped at the psychiatric hospital. We got off quite a few stops sooner than we needed along with a lot of other people on that shuttle. We walked the rest of the way and finally got to their hotel. There was a huge contrast between where we were staying and where they were staying. Naturally, we spent more time by them.

To get my mother out of his hair, my father bought tickets to a Beatles Tribute band for my mother, Lori and I. He said it would be cheaper than letting my mother gamble for three hours. We took a taxi to the show and the show was a lot of fun. Very entertaining. After the show, We opted to try the free shuttle again, thinking that the last one was a fluke. We were wrong. This ride was just as bad. Our stop was first, so Lori and I left, leaving my mother on the ‘shuttle bus of death’ to fend for herself. Once again the passengers bailed early just to get off of that bus. Luckily, my mother was able to take the tram back to the Luxor from where she got off.

We met up with them again the next morning for breakfast and then went to the Wax Museum before Lori and I drove back to Colorado.

The trip to Vegas was fun but uneventful, as far as Vegas trips go…
