The Senior Prom

My date to my Senior Prom was a girl named Sue. To a lot of people she was stuck up, but I never got that impression from her at all. I really liked her.  She liked what she liked, and if she didn’t like it, you’d know. I never saw a problem with that. If she did have a fault in my eyes, it was that she was a little bit of a worrier. I had no reservations about going to the prom with her. However, there was an issue when it came to prom planning.

I’d like to say I went to her and asked her to the Prom, but it wasn’t so noble. Being a smart, pretty, and funny red-head that I admired very much, I never would have gotten the nerve even though we were already good friends. While in the lunch room one of the guys at our table suggested that we go together. I loved the idea, but never thought she’d want to go with me. At the time she was dating a guy who was off in college up in Boston. The guy who suggested it, Doug, was going to go with Michelle (see 9/6/11 & 9/7/11) and as Sue and Michelle were good friends it would be more enjoyable for both of them.

The problem arose with the “after party” plans. It seemed that Sue and Eric, our team captain in track, had a falling out after the date he had with Danielle. I think it ended up as misunderstanding and they reconciled somewhat since then, but at this time it was high school drama.

One of the guys we knew from school named Paul was going to be hosting a party. At this point, I mostly knew him as the guy who had the talking car. From what I understand, if Mark and Jay had found him a prom date, his mother was going to pay for their Limo and then afterwards all of my friends were going over to Paul’s house for the after party followed the next morning by going to the Six Flags Amusement Park. Mark took this as a challenge and was also very cheap. (Mark and I had once gotten into a fight because he wanted to borrow $20 and I didn’t want to lend it to him because I never thought he’d be able to pay me back)

Now Eric was good friends with Paul growing up and would definitely be in attendance. I wasn’t about to bring Sue to Paul’s house with the animosity between her and Eric being so prevalent. At one point, Eric approached me and told me to come to the party despite the fact that Sue was my date. In the end, I had underestimated them both and they were both very mature and even cordial. I still did not want to press my luck, and opted to go to Fire Island the next morning rather than the trip to Six Flags. It was an okay time. Nothing exciting, but I still wouldn’t have wanted to go with anyone else.
