1. If you could name one moment from your childhood, which in retrospect has been a major formative moment or expresses who you then have become, what moment would it be? Describe in detail. My earliest totally formative moment would have to be getting cast in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for my children’s theatre. I was somewhere between 3rd and 6th grade, I got a solo for which I was terrified, and as an Oompa Loompa, I got to write a character bio for my oompa loopma. I wrote four solid pages about my character, who was named Skylar Rose. I don’t remember the story itself, but I remember those two things. I have always had an incredible imagination and a love of stories playing out in my head. I don’t write them out anymore, but every night when I fall asleep, I’m telling myself new story. And, I’ve always remember that moment, standing on the stage ready to sing my heart out, and loving it. I’m never brave enough to do it again, but it is who my soul is.
2. If you found yourself in wonderland for a day, what would be your favorite part? I think I would absolutely love the wild maze garden, the lack of physics, and the fact that imagination has power (Looking Glass Wars series). In that world, if you can dream it, it comes to life through the power of the Heart Crystal. I’d be in heaven.
3. Describe the difference between science fiction and fantasy books in your own opinion. I find it hard to tell the difference, but I tend to go with fantasy being based on mythology more, and science fiction based in a future of open ended, often technology or alien based worlds.
4. Describe your favorite room in your house in detail. As a college student, it’s still my bedroom, the only room truly mine. I have a large closet, covered in clothing, extra blankets/sheets/towels, art supplies, and random shit, a walk in bathroom, and large floor space. Next to the bathroom door are two bookcases, one taller and white, with a white curio shelf on top with candles, my magic box, my snow globes, and my alarm clock on it, and a black one with junk on top for now, but will hold my jewelry box. Next to those is a rolling drawer thing with swimsuits, socks, and underware, with a flat top as my bedside table. It is obviously next to my bed, a double bed with nine pillows in champagne and blues, next to my only window with grey blue curtains. That’s the far corner of my room. The only thing on that wall is the paintings leaning against it cause I haven’t put them up yet. The desk is on the same wall as the door you walk through, a pine pressboard desk in an assymetrical shape. It bulges out in a round shape toward you over where you sit, and dips in over the two shelves next to my legs. On my desk I have a monitor, with my computer tower on the floor next to the desk. Above the desk I have two metal shelves with my printers/scanner, my excellent speakers, my memory box full of old ticket stubs, notes, photos, etc, and orginazational supplies. I then have my laundry basket of yarn next to that, a random box of dry food stuffs, and two hat boxes of scarves/purses/shin guards/hats next to the door. And all over the floor are random papers, books, things I haven’t yet put away. I love my room.
5. How do you organize either your bookcase or your closet? My closet, when organized, has clothing sorted by color and type of clothing (shirt, dress, sweater, pants, etc.), which is similar to how I organize my bookshelves. Hardcover books go together, as do series and genre. The twilight books (gag, I know, I was young and silly) go next to other teen fiction, like house of night, but Harry Potter goes by the City of Bones Series and anything by Tamora Pierce. Shakespeare is always by Jane Austin and the Illiad and the Odyssey, and self help books always go together.
6. What is your favorite scent? I love deep scents, like dragon’s blood, sandlewood (my all time favorite), and patchooli. I also love pomegranite, "love spell" by Victoria Secret, and some sweet scents of food. My favorites of those would be warm apple cinnamon or pumpkin pie or french vanilla.
7. Imagine long after our time has past, archeologists discover your remains in your natural habitat. What would you want them to discover about how you lived? What would they actually discover? I would love for an archeologist to discover that I was an avid reader, an artist, witha love of diversity. I would want them to find my memory box and realize I loved people, theatre, and saw the world as a wonderful place. However, as most of what I love is paper, they would probably only find my computer, my music equipment, and my snowglobes. God only kn
ows what they will make of that.
8. Closeyour eyes and picture the one person you love most in your life. What is the first thought you have of them (Ie: their scent, their face/a certain feature, their voice, a phrase, etc.) I remember the feel of soft skin, the smell, and a phrase "Return to Me".
