hurried update

So, things have been basically insane here since the start of January. My boss and I have recruited 75+ people for our research study that starts next week, and I’ve been busy trying to find replacements for people who drop out, make sure that everyone has directions, and that everyone knows when to come for orientation. Orientations are this week, which is going to be intense and wild. Thankfully she has an independent study student helping out as well.

With the help of my group members, I submitted the abstract for my qualitative research class project to the women’s and gender studies conference here on campus. It’s a conference that is very open to student work, so I’m optimistic about the chances of acceptance. I just submitted an application for a summer internship in D.C. – I’ll share more details on this stuff in a friends-only entry. Also have the final edits for a manuscript I’ve been working on for at least a year. That’s going to be submitted to the journal this week too. And classes are happening, and both my data analysis class and my stats class have weekly homework assignments. The last time I had two classes with weekly homework assignments I was in high school!! Which was 10 years ago. (Which begs the question "Why the heck am I still in school?" but we’ll save that for another time).  I’m hoping after this next week I’ll have a chance to catch up.

Sage has absolutely thrived and blossomed. His ear infection is mostly gone now (I need to try to make a followup appointment with the vet next week). He has TONS of energy…in general, he insists on at least two interactive play sessions that last 15+ minutes a day. This doesn’t count his own acrobatics around the apartment. When he’s not flying around at top speed or asleep in the hallway, he’s snuggling next to me. I call him my lovebug. He’s a chatterbox, and he loves to slick the fur on the top of his head down to where he looks like a teenage boy who just discovered hair gel. Best cat ever. And J laughs at me, because it’s clear that I haven’t had a pet since I moved out of my parents’ house- I adore every little thing about him.

Okay. Back to work.

Busy indeed! But the exciting, stimulating kind of busy at least, for the most part. Very glad to read that Sage is doing well.

Wow, things sound a little intense. Glad you have a great cat to help take a bit of the edge off.
