So, after all of my anxious internet searching and trying to calm myself down….good news today. Sage has great heart function. His mitral valve flaps are too long, but the cardiologist didn’t recommend medicating him at this point (perhaps down the road, if he develops high blood pressure), and we just need to keep an eye on his resting heart rate and make sure he gets yearly echocardiograms. And cardiologist says he may never develop serious heart problems.

And classes are starting this week and I’m less prepared than I’d like (partly because I’ve been working on an internship application- more on that later). It’s crazy to me how fast time moves.

Called today to make reservations for my birthday- one of my girlfriends and I are meeting J’s mother, grandmother and sister at a tea room about an hour away. Looking forward to it.

The weather’s been unseasonably warm (unreasonably warm?) the past few days. Like 80 F (27 C). It’s supposed  to be the coldest part of winter right now. I planted peas on friday, because I’m scared if I don’t do it now, it’ll be way too hot.  Seriously- last year’s tomato plants have started blooming again. (Yes, I have been that behind on garden chores).  Also, something keeps digging through my pots (pretty sure it’s a neighbor’s dog that’s getting up on the porch. I was telling J that you really ought to be able to list gardening on your resume- it’s a never-ending series of problem solving and project planning.

While driving to the grocery store yesterday we noticed a new pastry/bread/coffee shop that had opened up in my old neighborhood. We’ll have to check it out- last year a regional grocery store chain was named the best bakery in the city. And J is decidedly fond of baked goods. I’m always happy to see good things happening in that neighborhood. It’s an older neighborhood, predating zoning laws, so apartments, nice houses and public housing are all sort of jumbled in together. Perfectly safe and serviceable, perhaps a bit run down but great to live in (heck, there’s an urban farm and a local health food store that only sells local produce) Whenever my dad came to visit I always held my breath and hoped he didn’t get lost in a particular twist of roads, because I didn’t want him to freak out over where I was living.

Anyway. I’m enjoying the last few moments of calm before the semester whirlwind starts, and decidedly grateful Sage is okay.

Good thing about Sage 🙂 We have a place here in Brisbane, Australia that sounds just like the area you’ve described 🙂 Those kinds of areas are awesome 🙂 You can list gardening under Hobbies on your resume. But it would take another gardening person to understand what that involves. So you could add a little note next to it, eg: “Gardening of vegetable patch – always problem solving to ensure steady and healthy growth of peas and tomatoes.”
