The Rose

I went to a wedding on the weekend. It was nice. One part of the ceremony was particularly beautiful.  It was called the rose ceremony.

The bride and groom were each given a rose. The grooms sister stood up and spoke. She asked the bride and groom to exchange roses with each other. That symbolizes their love. She also said they were to go home and mutually decide on a place in the house to place a vase with the roses in it. The vase was to remain there forever. Never to be moved (unless they moved out of the house then they were to pick a new place in their new home). Each year on their anniversary they are to each buy a single rose and place it in the vase to symbolize their continued love.

They were encouraged to place a rose in the vase at any time throughout the year just to let the other know they were thinking about them. They could also place a rose in the vase if something was bothering them. This would enable the other spouse to stop what they were doing and dedicate time to their spouse and work out whatever was bothering them.

It was basically a way to say "I LOVE YOU" or "I NEED YOU" or "I"M THINKING ABOUT YOU" without having to say a word. I thought it was a great idea. I even cried (big surprise) when the sister was reading the story to them.

thats kind of sweet!! and it really doesnt have to be with ROSES either… I know they get expensive, but if ANY kind of flower was in the vase it would work too

I love that.

that is so pretty. There are two diarists on here, squidobarnez and sezura who just got married and they did the exact same thing when they got married and I thought it was such a beautiful thing to do. I may include that in my wedding!
