Post B’day, Pre weekend

Got a call from my mom and dad tonight to wish me a Happy Birthday. It was nice to hear from them. Dad is doing pretty well after his stroke 3 months ago. He still line dances every week but gets tired and uncoordinated after about an hour. Mom says he gets a little frustrated with that since he’s not used to it. He also gets tired in the afternoons – but he’s still healing. These things take time. It will be nice to have the week with them in April so we can talk at a relaxed pace.

Diane and I have our tickets to Vermont. We leave Cleveland at 3:30 and land in Burlington about 5:00. We’ll probably spend some time with Fred (Diane’s dad) and Patrisha on the way through. The wedding is the next day and then there’s Easter.

Justin called me earlier today to tell me he got invited to the Honors and Scholars ceremony at OSU. He wrote his advisor to see if that meant he could apply to the Honors program. She told him that he needed 30 credit hours and a 3.4 GPA. He’s got 29 and his GPA is 3.6. Oh, well. He’ll just have to wait another quarter. He didn’t apply directly to the honors school when he applied to college. He wasn’t sure he would get in and didn’t really know what it would give him. Now he knows a few people in the program and he thinks it’s worth it. (Honors degree looks impressive but more important for him is that he gets to select courses ahead of everyone else and that’s sometimes a big deal with 50,000 students). Dad is very proud.

(Listening to Mozart’s Piano Concerto #17  – Very nice)

It’s getting on toward 10:00pm and I’m a little tired. 5:45 comes early and I need to give my brain a rest. Tomorrow’s Friday and then the weekend is here. It’s supposed to go below freezing tonight so the weekend may not be great. Oh, well. I need to finish taxes (ammended federal return and then state and local).

Random note capture – Had to put $600 into the Taurus for brakes, tie rod, alignment, and coolant flush. Tires are next. But, old "skylar" is worth it. She’s got 125,000 miles on her and runs great. Diane likes the wagon cus she holds lots of garage sale booty.

(Now concerto #40 – This is a nice one too.)

Oh my! i saw your entry on the front page, and lo and behold your wife is the daughter of Fred, who lives with Patrisha, who has been one of my fave diarists for a long time. Happy birthday – i’m nearly 51…alas….Have a good trip!

The should write an, “or unusual or exceptional circumstances permitting” clause into the Honors program rules. Getting to select your courses ahead of everyone else is a huge advantage. Good luck with your trip. I hope your dad continues to improve.

Looking forward to your visit. What day is it you’re flying in? Belated Happy Birthday, bearfils, it’s hard to accept that you and Diane are 50 years old. Sheesh.
