X-C Ski Afternoon
What a great day! The sun is shining with temps around 15. Perfect for skiing. So, I’m looking out my office window at 11:30 and decide to take the afternoon off and get out there. I have 31 days I need to take this year – no more carry over vacation : (. So, I thought, what is a day like this for anyway?
I went to French Creek Reservation – about 15 minutes from home. The big snow dump was about 16 inches around here on Wed. I gave it a day to stop blowing and today was perfect. Most of the trails had already been broken by a couple of earlier brave souls. Those I took and really got some good gliding in. One of my favorite loops was still unbroken except for some deer tracks. I plowed through it with gusto stopping often to catch my breath – and lose my breath over the beautiful river flowing through the snow covered woods. I took a picture with me cell phone camera but am having trouble uploading it. I’ll try later. The wind was not a factor for the first time in recent memory. Mainly because I was in the woods. The sun shone the whole time. Usually I’m cold for the first 30 minutes or so but not today.
Saturday and Sunday are going to be even nicer so it looks like I’ll be getting some more swoosh time in. Things will start to warm up next week.
Well, I need to see if I can get the pictures loaded and then pull together a package for Justin. His birthday is Saturday so we’re going to send him a Care package..
Namaste
Great pix. Lived in Colorado several years ago. Remember those “ski afternoons” – fondly.
