College Orientation at OSU
Just finished day 1 of orientation for Justin at The Ohio State University. I’m very impressed with how smoothly they run these things. They surely have enough years under their belt to get it right. Signs and red-shirted helpers were everywhere. You couldn’t get lost.
There were lots of very appropriate sessions on getting prepared for the upcoming college experience for both the students and the parents. They dealt with not only the university experience but also the personal side of separating from your child, what to expect with winter break (student home for 3 weeks after 11 weeks on their own), etc. Some sessions were combined and others were separate.
My only complaint was that they only allowd 15 minutes to schedule fall classes with your advisor in a group of 20 students. This is nowhere near enough time to deal with each student’s unique questions. I have to add that this was proceeded by 1 1/2 hours of garbage (waste of time) that could have been better utilized. My evaluation form will read just like tha above.
Justin and I came down by ourselves since Diane is still not sleeping very well – going on 8 years now. Expect this will not ever change but she thinks otherwise. – Too deep a subject for this short entry. But, it is too bad for her to miss another milestone in Justin’s life.
Tomorrow’s session is 1/2 day and looks like about 1 hour of valuable stuff. I look forward to the time with Justin and taking in the college atmosphere. Good discussions with him all the way here for 3 hours last night. Expect more of the same tomorrow.
I wish you the best! I see you like To Kill A Mockingbird also!

I liked reading this entry. Yes, a big milestone in your life, and an even bigger one for Justin. Savor all that time. I’m just getting back on OD which you must know since I found your note tonight on my 2nd entry since restarting. I hate giving Verizon 2.2 cents a minute ‘tween the hours of 9a thru 9p. It is .2 cents per minute otherwise. I hope we will get the DSL as they recently told us… i.e., next Tuesday. It is troubling that spousal unit has cronic probs. Have any drugs been tried? I send love to all three of you. Also for your kitties and friends. Special to Nicole, almost fergot.
