barefoot bluejean night

Channeling a combo of The Pioneer Woman and Young House Love

A couple of you asked about the lovely drink in my last entry, and I was bragging about it non stop while in FL with Bill and his coworkers, so I figured I’d throw together a little step by step for anyone who’s interested.

First off, here are the ingredients I used:

Coffee Mate French Vanilla creamer (2 shots), store brand chocolate syrup, Nestle cocoa powder (1 Tbsp), Pinnacle Chocolate Whipped vodka (2 shots), Kahlua (1 shot)

Plus a shot glass, martini glass, and a spoon.  A shaker and ice is also the best way to mix everything, but I don’t have one.

The first step (and this was the whole reason I decided to make the drink in the first place, but it isn’t REALLY necessary…just makes it much more chocolatey) is to mix 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder with 2 shots of coffee creamer until it goes from looking like the first two pictures there to more like the last.

You could use plain coffee creamer instead of French Vanilla.  I just happened to have FV on hand because it’s all we drink and I lovelovelove FV creamer in my hot chocolate, so I figured this would work well.

Or you don’t even have to use cocoa powder.  Like I said before, just makes it more chocolatey.  If you forego the cocoa powder, just start with two shots of creamer.

Pour the creamer (with or without the cocoa powder) into your shaker.  My shaker was a makeshift one with two cups and ice, so I didn’t include any pictures.

Add the 2 shots of Chocolate Whipped vodka and 1 shot of Kahlua.

Shake.  Set aside for a minute.

Pour some of the cocoa powder onto a small plate.  Flip your martini glass over onto the plate to coat the edges.  But it’s not just enough to dip it, the cocoa doesn’t stick very well.  Personally, I lick the rim to help it (shush, it’s perfectly sanitary if I’m only serving myself).  I also tilt the glass and spin it while spooning cocoa onto the rim.  I like the cocoa nice and thick…all personal preference.

Line your martini glass with the chocolate drizzle (optional, just for decoration, really).  One might notice in the powder picture above I don’t have my drizzle and in the drizzle pics, I don’t have my powder. Doesn’t really matter which you do first, but typically I’d go powder first.  The only reason it’s not in the pic above is I forgot.

Pour your shaken martini from the shaker into the glass.  Top with cocoa powder (as much as you like, I happen to like A LOT).

And voila – then you have this.

OK, I’ll go back to not pretending to be The Pioneer Woman or Young House Love.  Let’s leave that to the professionals.  Ones with their own TV show on Food Network.  And YHL should totally have their own TV show on HGTV.

I am SO going to have to try this! Also, War Eagle! That baby is going to be wearing Auburn clothes when he’s with his aunt! 😉

That looks AMAZING (but horrible for me)! I recently discovered how much I like Pinnacle whipped cream vodka (haven’t tried the chocolate whipped). Unfortunately they didn’t have a tiny size of the cotton candy flavor and Lee took a gamble buying it for me… blurghhhhh. Now I have a whole bottle of it to deal with, when I just want the whipped cream one! I’m not a big fan of chocolatey…

…cocktails, but I think I’ll give this a try sometime! Also, I’ve never tried creamer in hot cocoa (I do make it with milk, though). You know what’s delicious? Ghiradeli double chocolate cocoa mix. Yummm. 🙂

RYN: See if you can find a nip of it to try. Or maybe a bar that serves it? I swear, if you like it, I’d be willing to meet up with you on my next trip to NYC and give it to you! I loooove real cotton candy, but this stuff tastes too artificial or something. Maybe I can find something to mix it with that’ll make it taste more like the real thing? I could have used that at my carnival party!

YESSSSS! Two of my fave blogs! OMGYAY!Also, I sort of wish that I had all of this right now. Nevermind I’m at work and mixing a drink might, you know, be a tad unbecoming. I WANT.

oh so I just now remembered that you were going to be in richmond like, a weekend or two ago. Yea…. my bad homes. In my defense, I was working AND I can’t remember a damned thing anymore with this pregnancy brain. Maybe you’ll get a birthday card on time this year? Have not purchased said card yet, so this could still be an epic fail on my part. but I love you! haha

re: she’s driving a school bus this year and I think the bus goes to that elementary school, so she wanted to tell us about it. Lol her son has had trouble with the renters across the street in the past, and the people that lived here before us tore the house up and didn’t pay rent and did drugs I think, so they realllly want to keep us around 🙂 I have the heat on this morning can you beleive it?

its only september in richmond, maybe we’ll have a fall this year ?!

oh how did the parental meeting go?

ahhh, sue and henry are good buffers. Aj’s mom will probably be at the baby shower, if she comes (not sure bc trinas not coming and that’d be the only person ajs mom knows. Too bad you won’t get to meet trina! yea this morning it was like 65 in the house. I was a little chilly but it was def too cold for chloe. and of course I wash all of her fall stuff today only to look at the weather

and see that its going to be 75-80 for the next 10 days. damnit.
