there’s a calm surrender to the rush of day
I’m a crappy writer and a crappy noter. I know. You don’t have to yell at me. You’ve actually probably forgotten that I exist. Well, I do exist, so there.
A very busy spring kicked off a few weeks ago with a trip to Maine to visit my grandfather. Six hours is a long ways to drive for a day and a half visit, but it was worth it.
Nine hours is even longer to drive for a day and a half visit, which is what Bill did Friday night to get to Richmond. My trip was two hour shorter as he picked me up in Brooklyn.
But since we do plan to get married in RIC, we had to go visit wedding venues sooner or later and it was Chloe’s birthday, so it made perfect sense. And we’re going back in a few weeks because we didn’t find the perfect one. Yuck. We liked one place (Civil War Center), but weren’t 100% sold, so we started doing some more research and asked the planner for other places.
Ended up looking at pics of Main Street Station online yesterday and I FELL IN LOVE. Haven’t seen the inside yet in person (been by the outside more times than I can count), but I’m pretty sure this is it. Up until I saw these pictures, I was on the "outdoor backyard wedding in a tent" thing…now I’m in full Main Street Station swing.
Oh, and I officially asked Allison to be my Maid of Honor (after breaking Sue’s heart by telling her the job was taken) and asked Sarah to be a bridesmaid. And by asked, I mean I gave them both a double picture frame with a pic of us together (plus each of their daughters) and a note in the empty side saying "Insert picture of Maid of Honor/Bridesmaid, Flower Girl, and the Bride." How creative am I? Not very, I know, but I liked it.
American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar
Outdoor patio areas where the reception and potentially ceremony could be held.
Outdoor area on the other side where many people host their ceremony, but we were thinking it’d be better for cocktail hour. Nice partial view of downtown Richmond.
The canal and river are right across the street from Tredegar, with ideal areas for fun wedding-day picture taking.
Main Street Station
Located right on Main Street in downtown Richmond. One of my favorite buildings in the city.
Only indoor place that’s affordable and really caught my eye. Love the ceilings, columns, and windows in this palce.
Opportunity for gorgeous outdoor photos including the steps, the street, and even the Farmer’s Market next door. The river is also not far if we want to drive to the spot by Tredegar.
How awesome does this look? I want sparklers.
Berkeley Plantation
Already ruled out due to very damp grass after rain, poor proximity to bathrooms, and it’s just too far away from civilization. But here’s a nice pic of Lily, me, and Allison.
I TOTALLY vote for the main street place. The civil war place is cool, but the main street place is more NY for ya’ll.

Gosh, I think both places look really awesome but I do believe I’d go with Main Street Station, myself. I like the sparkler idea too! Good luck deciding 🙂 <3

I loved my outdoors ceremony, but omg Main Street Station looks amazing! Pick it, pick it! Also, I really wanted sparklers, but they weren’t allowed there. Still a little sad about that, lol.

I didn’t forget you! Actually, I was just thinking about you the other day, wondering where you were. Guess I should have left a note or something. 🙂 I definitely love the Main Street Station the best. And I also love the idea of sparklers… too cool!
