In this day & age, we still live in the dark -edit

Well, Australia still lives in the dark ages.  Voted against 98 to 42, due to the opposition leader not allowing a conscious vote.  Many say even with one, it was slim pickings.  It’s not like I have anyone to marry anyway.  Hopefully by the time I do, this country will lift it’s head out of the sandpit.

I’ve always been a bit of an activist.  I like to think even if I wasn’t gay, my heart would still want to allow people who love each other to have equal rights.

And what about this absolute dickhead who compared same-sex marriage to beastiality!?  Fucking hell – I was already getting pissed off at the various "Christian" tossers over the last few weeks who had thrown their bigoted views in, but this guy takes the CAKE.  The video is here of him making the offensive statement.
He resigned his position after making the statement, a wise move.

Now other senators are saying gay marriage will be legal within 10 years.  I was saying that about 15 years ago, so it gives me less and less hope in this country.  I don’t care if it’s not marriage – the religious nutcases can keep that sanction.  A civil union would suffice.  I would absolutely love to attend a gay wedding.  A legal one.  I reckon I’d have a tear in my eye, even if I didn’t know who either of the people getting married were.

As the video says, ‘Our next hope is Tasmania’.  Yeah, we’ll see.  Although I do see Tasmania as having some sort of sense over the mainland.  Politics-wise they always have.

Edit:  I’m adding this video in this morning that a friend shared.  It’s pretty long so I don’t expect people to watch it all, but it’s Larissa Waters’ speech to the senate.  I have always voted for this woman, and after watching this I just wish I could meet her and shake her hand.

You can come here to Canada and get married! I’ll plan it for you!

Shameful day in Australian politics.

Destination weddings are more fun than expensive Australian weddings. Then change your name legally, wear a ring, say you’re married, get the civil union paperwork. I’d do it regardless. It pisses me off that Australia is so bigoted.

It saddens me so much that there are still places who don’t allow gays the same rights. I look forward to a day where we don’t have to define things as “gay” rights or “gay” marriage – they will just be known as rights and marriage. Does that make sense?

ryn: Sadly, even though I’m pretty sure he’s not gay, you probably have a better chance with him than and old lady like me! Haha! I’m okay with that, though, because I probably wouldn’t even know what to do with him.
