Can’t sleep
Well this is typical of me. The life of Matt. It’s almost 6am and I haven’t slept yet. I’ve sorta tried to a few times in the last few hours, but once again, I can’t sleep because I’ve got something important on the next day. This always happens. I just can not sleep.
It’s my follow-up appointment with Dr Emerson. He’ll probably charge me another $200, but I hear, hopefully, that follow-ups aren’t as pricey.
I spent yesterday afternoon at Queensland X-Ray, getting my x-ray for my teeth done, that Dr Emerson wanted. I couldn’t remember exactly how it worked, but they closed at 6pm and it was 4:30, and I wasn’t sure how long it’d take, so I just went to the closest one which was at the Mater Hospital. Sucks the company he uses isn’t the one at the hospital RIGHT NEAR MY HOUSE! So anyway, I jumped on a bus and hightailed it there. I knew it would cost me and I was warned, wheras if I went to a suburban clinic, it would’ve been bulk-billed. Go figure how that works! But because I suck at timing and it was my last possible day to get it done before I have to see Dr Emerson again, I just kinda wanted it out of the way. It cost me $85.30 for the x-ray and apparently I get $45 of that back on Medicare. Oh well, at least I have my X-rays now. There’s a stupid sticker on the back that reads, "To be opened only by the referring doctor". How lame! I paid for me and I wanna see haha.
The machine was fucking weird. I assumed it would be like at the dentist when they take an x-ray, but nope, I had to stand up, put my head in a machine whilst he strapped my head still, and then shuffle forward enough and feel around with my teeth on this stick-thingy and bite down on the groove. Then I had to smile as big as I could, whilst the machine seemed to whirl around me on a 270 degree rotating axis. Weird! Anyway, it was over in about 5 minutes, then I had to wait another 10 or so for the prints, forked out my $85 (on credit thank you very much lol) and I walked home with my x-rays in tow, getting lost on the way out of the hospital somehow.
I got in the elevator and before I could hit a button, it went up and there were two nurses with a patient in a bed waiting when the door opened on level 7. The male nurse told me to get out of the elevator. How nice! So I did, as obviously they had to use it to transport the patient down, but i couldn’t help but wonder why patients don’t have their own elevators? In a private hospital! I guess it’s all cost-cutting right? It’s just I figure if hotels can have a staff elevator for room service, why shouldn’t the hospital? Either way, the female nurse told me how to get out and mentioned for me to use the stairs. I did and walked out, realising where I was when the road connected back.
So yeah, my appointment is at 12:30pm this time. Not 7am haha. That’s still 6 and a half hours away so I’m hoping I can get some sleep in. I’m a bit nervous about what he’s going to tell me. It’s stupid cos this is the whole reason I went there. He should have gotten the blood results back around 2 weeks ago, and I can now give him the x-ray when I go in. Gee, talk about cutting it fine Matt! I’m really interested to find out what levels I am insufficient in, if anything. I’m not exactly sure of the process from there – whether I’ll need a third appointment or not for a health medication solution or what. I guess seeing this guy without a job wasn’t the cleverest idea – he ain’t exactly cheap, but when I booked the appointment last year, I DID have a job haha.
Yeah I’m nervous about the job thing. It’s such a stupid thing to play on my mind really. I mean I have so much customer service experience and retail experience, but not much else at all. I’m sure I’ve rambled about this heaps. It’s gotten to the stage in my life where I don’t wanna have to go to a party or a, God-forbid, date situation, and have to answer that dreaded judgemental question…"So what do you do for a living?"
Answering "Oh I work at Woolies, Cotton On and Caltex" are answers that make the opposite person’s eyes scan the room for the quickest exit.
That’s the main thing that bothers me. I could easily go back and do a job I’ve done before. But so much of me tells me I’m better than that and should go for better, with my mind screaming at me ‘But you idiot, you have no idea how to go about it."
I’ve thought about what that friend of my friend who works for Centrelink told me when I met him for Thai at dinner that time, when I said I’d never been on Centrelink. He said to me calmly, "Oh don’t be too proud."
I’m moreso thinking that since I haven’t had any income in quite a while now, that I could probably qualify for a health care card. That would be fucking sa-weet if I could, and would save my arse dental-wise. I might have to look into it. I know when I was a teenager they requested your previous 8 weeks pay slips. I think it may have been that long since I left, or almost. I feel like I’m paying my health insurance for no reason lately.
My new housemate is still being cute. He bought afternoon tea for us cos he was gunna be home early, but I was out getting my x-ray done, so I missed out and he ate the yummy bakery food by himself lol. He borrowed one of my DVD’s and said I should go up and spoon with him. SO cute. I didn’t know if he was serious or not so I just kept cleaning my room and hugged him goodnight. My room looks pretty sweet now 🙂
Is that your photo? You look like Noel Fielding!

Have you considered working for an Airline like Virgin or Qantas or something? Those are great Customer Service based positions where the benefits are awesome, as well as the pay. Just sayin… I am sure the doc will let you see, if not keep, the X-Rays. They are YOURS afterall. 🙂

Good luck with your job hunting. Nobody will ever fault somebody for doing a job like that if you’re aiming to go higher or if you’re simply very happy and proud of what you do. It’s all about your attitude and working hard for what you want rather than settling for something you don’t enjoy and you’re not proud of and hoping that something will just magically appear. xxx

I always open scans and read the report. Not that I understand much written in medical jargon. I can’t wait to hear how you go today and what you find out.

Have you thought about applying for customer service roles / student service roles within universities or private colleges, uni’s you get all the benefits of a Gov job plus good pay and they value customer service skills, same with banks and there call centres, it’s not generally fun starting in a call centre but I have friends who have started that way at Westpac and CBA and are now team leaders

etc so your customer service skills could actually come in handy, even behind the teller at the bank. I’m ok at resumes so I would be happy to help you if needed 🙂 Hope your appointment goes well!! Oh and centrelink, go and sign up its not much $ but you will get the health concession and sometimes a travel concession – so worth it! You wont need all those payslips either.
