Scot-free

This Trayvon Martin situation over in Florida, USA, is SO sad! I sort of caught bits of it during my usual crazy-hours-of-the-morning television watching (where the only options are 1900-Call-Me-Now or morning USA programs), but I saw more of it through George Takei’s blog (the link provided) and I found myself with almost a tear in my eye. How crazy is this? This is a law!? It makes me wonder if we have any crazy laws. We did have the ‘homosexual defence’ law up until a few months ago, which bewildered me. It meant that if someone murdered someone, all they had to say to avoid a jail sentence was, ‘He made a move on me, so I shot him dead.’ How blatently ignorantly (sub)consciously homophobic was THAT law!? Luckily we had a very smart Prime Minister named John Howard who introduced gun laws after the Martin Bryant massacre, but that law was only just repealed! Murder is murder!

Fucking hell, homophobic and racial issues are one in the same – gays and people of colour are WHO PEOPLE ARE, and it just stuns me that someone can not only end an innocent life because someone seems ‘dodgy’ or ‘a threat’, but will probably end up getting away scot-free.

This is causing a huge scene in america… there are rallies all over the country, and I’m pretty sure that the guy who killed Trayvon will be facing legal repercussions very soon.

I’m a Floridian.I just left there last year. Sanford it’s a crap hole, and Florida a all these crazy conservative governors who want people to be the law. That place us crazy.and it’s a horrible, sad, awful situation….

Same thing happened with a black guy shooting a white guy up in Michigan same dumb law. This guy was playing basketball in the park with his 8 year old daughter who had just came back from the war last month..The black guy lived across the street from the park and some boy was on the court with skate’s on and he took his gun with him to ask why he was on it and the white guy told him it was fine with him and there was no signs posted and the black guy told him to stay out of it and the white guy said come on man he’s just a kid when he started yelling at the kid and when the white guy started walking up to him the black guy pulled the gun out and shot him dead and there is no big up roar over it at all here..But a black kid in FL gets the same thing done and we can’t get it off the news…Murder is Murder Just over here gives them something to bitch about b/c it was a black kid..But then nothing said about the one’s killing others everyday its just sad and sick this country can’t learn from the past and move on..Point being there is no reason for carrying guns about and then using that law to make it ok no matter who you are or what colour your skin is..
