Piercing Pain

I’d just left work this morning and was just casually walking along the footpath, when I suddenly had a very sharp pain in the left side of my chest, kind of just at the bottom of my chest on that side.  The pain was so much that I literally felt I had to hold that area firmly with my hand, and I was stopped dead in my tracks.  I realised I could still breathe okay, but I tried breathing heavily, and the pain hit me again.  I was freaking out.  What was the emergency number from a mobile?  It’s 112 right?  I was sure it was.  My phone was in my pocket but I didn’t get it out.  I’d reached the lights and was waiting for the green man to cross.  There were cars and trucks waiting also for the lights to change, who probably saw me clutching over in pain.  I stayed still, holding that area and taking short breaths.  So far so good.  The green man appeared and I crossed the road – still okay.  I got to the bus station and sat down, still freaking out, wondering what the hell just happened.  A thought crossed my mind, ‘I wonder what my autopsy would say?"  Wow, morbid much Matt?

The bus arrived and I flagged it down, cautiously sitting down.  The Go-Card machine wasn’t working, so I scored a free on-peak ride back to the city!  Yay!

I got home and climbed Jacob’s Ladder, the huge set of stairs near my place.  I’ve noticed since I’ve been sick, that I am exhausted by the time i reach the top of them.  Well, not exhausted, but I am definitely panting.  This sickness has really taken my energy out of me.  I am going insane not being able to hit the gym, because I’m being sensible and am trying to get better.  I’ve taken 6 of my pills I’ve been prescribed.  There’s 4 left in the packet and then I have a repeat.  The only time I feel like I am healthy is the immediate moment I wake up.  The sheet and cover is over me and I feel like I’m normal again.  But as soon as I cough or force cough a tickle in the throat, it just goes back to normal.  Today is day 13 of feeling like this.  I have gone through three boxes of tissues, including two at work.  I’m amazed I’ve been going to work actually, but I’m casual and there isn’t really a replacement.  I have one more shift tonight and then I have another 5-night weekend.  It kinda sucks that last week my weekend was ruined by being sick, and I’m trying to remain positive that this weekend won’t be the same, where I’m stuck in bed trying to get better.

There is nothing better I like then catching a train and/or a bus somewhere and just enjoying myself.  A friend who I don’t really know wants to catch up for coffee, and that’d be lovely, and the guy I went on the date with has been paying me out about being sick, thinking I’m faking it.  I said to him, ‘I WISH I was faking it!’

I seem to be okay since, but that piercing pain this morning was SO random!P

Keep an eye on it. If you get sharp pain when you breathe in, it could be a sign that you have a bad chest infection. But it would happen every time you breathe in. And if you get very short of breath at the same time, get some medical help. Otherwise it might just be one of those funny stitches. What pills did the doctor give you?

Sounds to me like you might have pleurisy, which is entirely possible if you’ve been sick like that. All the stuff you’ve mentioned…that’s exactly what it sounds like to me. Feel better soon! We can’t exactly get married if you’re sicky sicky sicky! 🙂

Oh my goodness Matty, take great care of yourself. I think you need to get another opinion, it sounds like an infection of some kind to me, 13 days is definitely not normal honey, and I agree, pleurisy sounds like a possibility!!!! Please take care xxxxxx
