Suicidal Flamer

So anyone who stalks me on facebook already knows this, but a woman tried to kill herself at my work yesterday afternoon.

I got to work last night, taking over from a girl from another site.  She’s been with the company for all of a month.  And yet, the craziest shit happened on her shift.  She proceeded to tell me all about it.

I did notice there was a freeze-frame on the security cameras out the back on what I thought was a man.  Turns out it was a woman.

She’d filled up a jerry can, and when she was at the counter, she also bought a lighter.  Fair enough.

After this, she went to our auto stock aisle, opened two bottles of metholated spirits… and poured them over herself… right there in the store.

I can only imagine Jenna’s (the girl working) reaction to that.

The woman then went outside to where she’d put the jerry can full of fuel she’d just purchased, and yep… she poured that all over herself too.

By this stage, from what I can understand, Jenna had rung 000 (911 for any American’s reading this).

She exclaimed ‘I work at ******** Wooloongabba!!  Hurry, a lady’s trying to kill herself!!’

The lady on the other end of the phone asked her how to spell ‘Wooloongabba’.  Unreal!  I think she was panicking and said ‘who cares!  Just please send someone.’ (or along those lines).

Fast forward 15 minutes – yep, 15 minutes AND another ‘000’ call, cops arrive.  In this time, the woman has tried to jimmy-open our gas bottle cage.  The crazy bitch was gunna try to blow herself up, and probably the premises in the process.  Luckily it’s locked tight and I don’t think she had much success there.
The cops barricaded the woman between our hire trailers, and she still held the lighter in her hand.
Jenna told me, "And then she did it!  She lit herself on fire!"

The police grabbed the nearest dry-chemical fire extinguisher and put the flames out.  I only wish I had seen this happen – a mental woman on fire being covered with white spray-mist/foam.  And I thought what happened to me on Friday was bad!  That was cat piss compared to this dump!

So yeah, there were between 6 and 8 police cars, Jenna had to shut down all the pumps, the police shut down the main road alongside my work, the ambulance was there and so was the fire brigade.  Being told this story seemed surreal because by the time I was being told this story, everything in the forecourt looked just as normal as always.

The woman was a complete mental case.  I feel sorry for her, but I was stunned that someone who go to that much of an effort to try and off themselves from the planet!

Apparently she’s okay, but has to suffer with burns to 45% of her body.

When I got to work and first met Jenna, she seemed to be hiding, and the moment I saw her face, I knew something was up.  She seemed very distressed.  I sat out the back like I usually do whilst she served a few more customers, then she came out the back and told me this crazy story.  The bottles of metho, jerry can and extinguisher were all there, I’m guessing as evidence?  I dunno – I made sure not to touch them during my shift just in case.

Jenna just wanted to get out of there, and who can blame her?  She rang her mates so that they would have a 6-pack waiting for her when she got out of work.
I mean I’ve been with the company going on two years now and never heard of anything that crazy, and she had to deal with that in her first month haha.  Other than the drama, she was an awesome girl and very easy to get along with.  Rumour is that she’s a lesbian, but I didn’t really pick up on it.  But who knows how to pick lesbians anyway?  I don’t think I know one single girl who HASN’T tried sleeping with another girl 😛

My shift was absolutely fine.  In fact I’m stunned at how fast it seemed to go by.

I’m off to the Margaret Cho tour tonight at the Tivoli.  Last time I was there I saw Taylor Swift before she was as famous as she is now.  Small venue but not bad.  i can’t wait to see this hilarious bitch – it’ll be my second time.

Must try and get a bit of a sleep in.  I was in the city this morning getting my tickets, and I got distracted shopping and came home with a new summer outfit 🙂

Oh wow, that’s intense! Of all the ways to kill oneself, that’s got to be one of the worst I can think of.

My God! I think if I wanted to kill myself I wouldn’t burn myself. Then if you go to hell for it, you’d have to burn twice!!

I don’t mean to judge, but some of the “haha’s” seem inappropriate… What a terrible thing to experience, I was actually just thinking about this… Have you ever watched someone die? It’s the most terrifying experience in the world, especially because once it’s over, it can seem awkwardly peaceful. Your co-worker is a brave woman and I applaud her calm and care in the situation.

Oh my God! Remind me never to work there ever! What a fucked up situation to be in!!!

I was waiting for this story. She is cray-cray! I’m glad you weren’t there!

Jesus! THAT’S INSANE! Although having a semi drive into my former work (gas station) at full speed was pretty whacky.

Oh wow, poor crazy lady and poor Jenna! She must have been panicking. Intense.

RYN: Fair enough, although I will say, this might be the most pithy title you’ve ever come up with!

Holy Crap! That poor woman! I can’t imagine ever being that distraught! I mean, it’s one thing to have a suicide wish but to have such an awful, painful plan to kill yourself. Just wow! And that poor girl, Jenna, having to witness all of that. That’s something that won’t leave you, ever.
