Adventure capital
Yup, Queenstown where I am staying with daughter and family is NZ’s adventure capital, the southern most bungy in the world operates here ( actually this is where they started)…as well as heaps of other adventures,(the paraponters fly over this house all the time as their landing strip is the field behind) plus ski-ing, snowboarding etc….NONE OF WHICH I BOTHER WITH OF COURSE !!! I have been coming down here for several years to visit, even tried living here once but its not me!! It is a beautifully planned little town in the most scenic part of NZ but it has no soul!! QT is a place for the young party going adventurers of the world, not for aging grannies with acheing limbs and high blood pressure!! Nevertheless it is a great place to visit, especially when the world’s number one grandkids live here!!!
Today the weather has started closing in again. As we drove around the lake to go to our favourite shop, low clouds hovered over the glassy water and skeletal trees are starting to slowly show signs of imminent spring blossoms. The mountains have fresh snow on them again and all the under thirties are standing at the roadside with their snowboards trying to hitch a lift up to the ski-fields. So different from Thames where I live!!!
Thames has hills and sea, is also rather touristy in summer, but totally different. We have lots of cafes etc there but in QT cafe’s and bars are everywhere! Its almost impossible to buy wool or a regular item of houseware (unless one goes out to the Warehouse) but there are souvenier and clothing shops in abundance.
Anyway, I was feeling a new woman today…leg still improving, and wearing a new jumper…my daughter has used grand-daughter’s crimpers to crimp my long hair (I currently look like a rounded white version of Whoopie Goldberg!!)….so we had a bit of a giggle.
Still feeling earth tremors, in fact there was one a few minutes ago that shook the pc….thank goodness it wasn’t a biggie.
Must just mention the animals in this household…they are a far cry from my Bella and Basil-fluff! Their cat is NOT cuddly, in fact although cute and well loved she is actually a real little stinker when it comes to their big not-so-brave labrador Saffron (the one who slept through the entire earthquake)…Poor Saff cannot even go through a door if the cat is anywhere near it, as Allysha crouches and waits ready to attack. She hates it when Saffron is close to the fire and she wants to get there, beats up on this poor dog all the time. Its like a circus here at times!!! Mind you, Saff gets her own back by eating all Allysha’s food when she gets a chance!
They both get jealous of each other too. If I try to stroke one the other gets really miffed, hovering around expounding a body language even a chimp would be ashamed of.
Anyway I am heading home up north tomorrow, and although it has been a wonderful holiday I am looking forward to my own bed again, and without being rocked to sleep!!! Don’t know when my own pc will be back repaired, but hope to stay in touch on FOD etc through the courtesy of friends if poss.
stay smiling everyone…..and if you feel like planning your next holiday give a thought to this part of the world…..its pretty cool ( or cold if you come at right time)….hugz….
I have never been to Queenstown! Hope you have a good reats of your trip! 🙂

And to think at 55 I thought I would do the Nevis highwire jump. My oldest daughter had done it on a previous vacation. In 2003 youngest daughter jumped and I wouldn’t even go out on the suspended car to watch her. I stayed at the observation point. Heck I got sick on the merry-go-round when I was a kid…
