Five Years

Five years ago today, I stood in front of a magistrate judge (who had quite the sense of humor!), dressed in a pair of regular, everyday khakis and a polo shirt, and promised to love Aaron for the rest of my life.  It was an impromptu wedding; I was sick of wedding planning when none of the family seemed to care or take an interest in an actual wedding.  We didn’t take any pictures.  Heck, we didn’t even have our rings with us!  They were home in the dresser drawer! And then afterwards, we both went to work.  It was definitely unconventional.

But so far, we’re still going strong.  I feel especially proud saying that considering that our separation last summer could have turned out much differently.  We still (and always will) have some kinks to work out…but really, five years is such a short time when you consider that my parents have been married for almost 25 and his parents have been married for almost 40.  We’ve got time.

There won’t be much of a celebration today, even though I definitely wanted to go out to dinner to at least observe the fact that we’re still married this year.  (We were still pretty much separated on our anniversary last year.) But, I have to work, 8-4 and then he has to take Jacob back to his mom’s, and we’re still broke.  So, I guess we’re just going to find away to have our own celebration after the kids go to bed.  We’re pretty good at that anyway.

So now, I’m going to go to work.  No, first I’m going to Sheetz.  Because I need a large iced vanilla chai latte in the worst way ever.  THEN I’m going to work.  I’ve been working my ass off lately, but I guess that at least management is noticed because I was pulled into a store meeting when the district manager visited on Thursday.  I was the only non-supervisor in the meeting, so that was pretty cool.  And our DM is an awesome guy; I learned a lot from him.  You can’t often say that about higher level management, especially in retail.

Now I’m heading out the door…I really need that latte!
