post-shoot giddiness

My photo shoot on Monday went amazingly well.  (I’m on a public computer at the moment, otherwise I’d post a few shots.)  The light, as predicted, was harsh and horrible, but I was able to work around it as best as I could and I came away with some really good shots.  I’m still in the middle of editing and processing, but I’m hoping to to be done by the end of the week.  This is the biggest batch of photos I’ve ever edited in one go (over 200!) so it’s taking me awhile.  Plus, I can never just sit down at the computer and edit.  I have to fit it in between feeding babies and changing babies and rocking babies to sleep.

I also finally got up the courage to post on my Facebook and MySpace pages advertising for portrait clients.  In a few weeks I think I’m going to try Craigslist as well.

The photo shoot was so fun, though.  I had a blast, and so did Sam and Andy.  The sun was brutal, and so was the temperature, but I was really surprised about how "into" it I was when we got started.  I’m fairly socially anxious, so I figured I would have problems directing them, or that I would forget everything I wanted to do or make some rookie mistake like shoot them with a tree coming out their heads, but I didn’t.  And they were up for pretty much anything I wanted to do, which was awesome.  I was really worried that I wouldn’t be able to make it as a portrait photographer because I’m not really a people person, but I think it’s going to be tons more fun than I ever thought.

So, essentially this shoot = major confidence boost.  I’m excited to book my next portrait session!

There are so many things that you have to do and know in order to start a business (and do it the legal way), and I’m so glad I have my small business management class this quarter, because it’s giving me a spring board to start from.  We start working on our business plans on Friday, and I’m so excited about that because, even though it’s dull boring stuff, it’ll give me a complete picture of my business, from a huge overview to all the tiny details.   I’m hoping having that business plan in my hands will keep me organized and consistent.

I’ve still got an hour until my next class, so I think I’m going to hide away in some corner, drag out my laptop, and get another chunk of portraits edited…
