books, baby gates, vampires*
I’ve got a headache, and I really don’t feel like writing, but I am, mainly just for something to do that doesn’t involved standing or moving around. This is going to be one of those headaches that comes with nausea, I can just feel it.
Had the kids to a WIC appt. this morning. Ben weighs 11lbs, 10ozs now. Wow! Over a three pound gain in six weeks. Awesome! Chloe’s at 29lbs. I got my finger stuck for a hemoglobin check, chatted with the LC about my homebirth and my intentions to let Ben self-wean, and then signed the kids up with this new program open to all kids in the state. Through some arrangment between the Governor and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, the kids will receive a new hardcover book in the mail every month until they are five years old. It’s a really great program. The kids got their first books today, "The Little Engine that Could." Chloe’s copy went on the bookshelf, but I’ll be putting Ben’s copies up somewhere so they stay nice.
Edited to add: I found out something else at the WIC appointment – I’m officially back down to my prepregnancy weight! This was infinitely surprising, as my diet has been complete crap the past month or so, and I haven’t exercised a bit. This really is motivating me to find out how much I can manage to lose if I just put a little effort into it…./Edit.
Went to Walmart after that to pick up a new baby gate. Got a plastic one this time, and so far I like it much better. It’s higher, definitely more durable, and Chloe can’t climb it like she could the last one (which is how it broke). I’ve got it up between the kitchen and living room now because the kitchen is a MESS and the last thing I need is for her to start playing with dirty dishes.
I started watching "True Blood" the other night. I’m so completely surprised how close the show is to the books. And it’s hilarious. I love Lafayette. My favorite scene (not with child friendly language, btw…):
I’ve been watching it at night when I’m trying to get Ben to go to sleep but he’s determined to be awake until two. After midnight is his favorite playtime.
Chloe’s going to be a monster this evening. She only had a ten minute nap in the car today, was up half the night last night, and didn’t have a nap yesterday. Between the inevitable tantrums and my headache, it’s shaping up to be a lousy night.
Blah.
