I’m such a horrible ODer lately.  I’m all the time on here, reading and noting faves, but I never seem to have enough to say to warrant writing my own entry.  I’m not working much now, just 20 hours a week, and Aaron’s back home for the time being, so hopefully I’ll have the time to start writing more regularly.

There’s really not a lot new around here.  Aaron finished up his schooling, and though he didn’t pass his CDL test the first time (nerves), he’s taking it again on Saturday, and I’m sure he’ll pass it this time.

He and I had a long discussion last night about money and our spending habits and the way we live financially.  We ultimately came to the decision that we’re going to start following the Dave Ramsey plan.  We don’t really have a ton of debt, but with our small income, any debt looks large.  So, we’re going to try to snowball that debt down in two years or so, which will free up our credit and our funds for stashing money to build our house.  The biggest part to this plan is making a budget and sticking to it, which is going to be the hard part for me.  I’m a compulsive spender, and it’s always hard for me to refrain from using money when I have it on me.  So, it’s going to be difficult for me to stick with, but I know it will be worth it when all of our student loans are paid off in two or three years, our credit is cleaned up and we can start building our dream home.

I’m also kicking around the idea of starting a family update/learn about our lifestyle blog.  So many of our family members seem to have some kind of animosity toward the way we live (non-vaxing, ebfing, cloth diapering, etc), and the other family members complain they don’t get enough pictures and updates of the kids, that I thought it might be helpful, and bring about a little more family closeness to start a blog about our family where I’ll post stories and pictures about the kids, homeschooling progress, stuff like that.  I’m just wondering if any of the family will actually read and follow.  And I’m wondering if I really need another thing on my plate to keep up with.

School’s going great; I have every confidence that I’m actually going to graduate this quarter, which is a relief.  Or course, I’ll probably just go straight back in so I can finish off my accounting degree, which is only nine more classes.

I’m also working hard on purging things I don’t need or don’t use.  I’ve got lots of stuff going up for sale on DiaperSwappers and Craigslist in the next few days.

Good luck with the budgeting! We’re planning on starting a family blog as we don’t live close to either side of our family. We also bought both sets of parents a webcam for Christmas so they can ‘see’ Sproglet even when they can’t visit 🙂 Good luck to Aaron for his test! xx

ooh, i love the idea of a family blog, as we don’t see much of my parents, & i want to keep them updated as much as possible. even now, i call my mum a few times a week to let her know how being pregnant is going! xx

I know waht you mean about spending money when you have it on you — when I have money, I always spend it because it burns a hole in my pocket. What’s wrong with using a cloth nappy? My mother did, and you just wash them. Baby poop washes out. Good luck with school!

I have a blog that I use for essentially the same reason (minus the kids thing. In fact, mostly just the photography thing lately). And I have no idea if anyone’s reading it because my family isn’t tech savvy enough to know how to comment. But it’s totally worth it for me, because they can’t say I’m not TRYING to communicate with them, ya know? It’s there. I wrote about it, I told you where itwas, it’s not MY fault that you think you don’t know me – ha!

family blog sounds awesome!
