back to school, the naked chef, kid rambles
Yep, back to the grind three days a week. The worst thing about being back in school is the six am wake up call. Not my favorite way to start the morning. But, I’m always reminding myself that this is my last quarter. In three months I’ll be graduated, I’ll have my degree, and I can forget about school for awhile.
Of course, with it being flu season and OMGSWINEFLU!! the school has put containers of Purel and Clorox wipes in every classroom and computer lab. I predict that by the end of next week we’ll all be walking around a bit high from all the alchohol in the air. It’s ridiculous. My mom is spazzing so much about the stupid flu…she’s panicking that one of my kids is going to catch it and die. [insert eye roll here] But then, my mom’s paranoid anyway. I’m convinced she needs to be on anti anxiety meds because she drives herself into a frenzy over the stupidest things.
I think Ben slept pretty much the entire night last night (after we got to sleep after 1, that is). He sleeps with me, and most of the time I don’t wake for his feedings anymore, but I was completely overloaded with milk when I woke up, so I don’t think he ate at all last night. Now, if this could only continue, I would be a happy, happy mama. Seriously, I love nursing the little booger, but the every two hours bit get really old after awhile. I can’t remember the last time I had more than three hours of sleep at a time. He’s actually getting a little bit of forumula now, which I’m not really ecstatic about. My pump broke, or rather Chloe dropped the motor to it in a kitchen sink full of dishwater, so I’m without a pumping method until I can afford to pick up a new one and Ben’s getting formula while I’m in school. I’m glad I was able to nurse him exclusively for the six months, and that makes me feel not quite so bad about giving him formula now. I wish I didn’t have to give it to him at all, but in the same vein, there’s no way it’s about to become a substitute. That boy of mine definitely loves his booby, and I’m betting it’s going to be a LONG time until he weans. I don’t plan on really pumping much at all after he turns a year old and I can introduce other forms of milk, though.
Ooh, I almost forgot! I might get to see/meet/drool over Jamie Oliver (The Naked Chef) at some point this quarter! He’s in Huntington filming a reality TV show about trying to teach people to live healthier, because apparently the CDC did a study and Huntington is the unhealthiest city in the nation. Definitely not a list you want to be on top, but I believe it. People here are outrageously obese. There’s practically a separate checkout line in the Walmart for people on motorized scooters. Anyway, they’ve set up "Jamie’s Kitchen" right across the street from the Starbucks where I get my chai latte before school, and there was a whole mass of production crew outside smoking (oh, the irony) on the sidewalk. I don’t know what time they start filming or anything, but I’m hoping I at least get a glimpse of him. Filming is supposed to continue on through November, I think.
Also awesome: I have a job interview today! I think I wrote about applying at ACMoore? Well, I did. I think I submitted my resume on Monday, and I got a call yesterday about an interview. So psyched about that. My interview is about an hour after my last class, so I’ll be doing a quick change in the van in the parking garage to shuck my jeans in favor of slacks before I go. I didn’t want to wear my slacks all day and get them wrinkly. I have no idea what position they’re considering me for, as there were at least ten open positions listed for this store on the website. Some of those were entry level managment positions, which would be awesome. There was also an opening in the framing department, which I think I would like.
It’s kind of scary, thinking about going out in to the "real" world to work again. It’s been almost a year and a half since I’ve worked outside the house. And sometimes I think I’m nuts for trying to get a job while I’m still going to school full time and Aaron’s on the verge of leaving for five weeks to go to driving school. I’ve going to be a big ball of cranky stress by the time the holidays come around, but I figured it was better to start the job hunt now before the holiday shopping season because almost no one hires after the New Year.
So, wish me luck for that. Oh, how I would dearly love an employee discount! 😛
Oooh, yeah, employee discounts are sometimes the best part of a job. :o) Good luck with your interview!
