Starting to Come Together (Continued)

Erica’s brother Tony and his girfriend were in the kitchen when I got home, along with this new person. She intorduced herslef as Erika’s friend Allision. She was really cool to talk to! She got her masters in psych with the same substance abuse concentration I’m getting. She’s been out of school a couple years now and works at Bellview (sp), the really famous mental hospital in nyc. AND she now has a job lined up in child psych in the bay area and is moving there this month. It was SO good to know that she’s able to get a good job in the location I want to move to with only a masters. Yay options!!! And it was really cool also cause we were talking and it turns out she also originally intended to go straight doctoral but didn’t get into any Ph.D programs and went the masters route instead. Basically everyone I’ve met here in the psych program has said that. i guess it’s pretty common to not get accepted the first time aroudn to a PhD program in psych. I’m feeling a lot better about it now.

While we were talkign Erika came out and asked if I wanted to come along bar hopping wiht them. I was like sure! I was so glad to finally be goign out not on my own. Donna and Lili came home right around then and they said they’d meet up iwth us. The first bar wasn’t that good so we left pretty quickly. Then we went to this place called the Milk Bar. It’s straight out of the movie A Clockwork Orange. The movie was creepy as all hell but the bar was really cool. And the drinks there were really good (they’d better be at $8 a peice!)

Next we met up with Donna and Lili and went to this other bar. I was done drinking for hte night cause of low fundage but it was pretty cool cause we all wound up dancnign “the lawnmower”. Then came the best part of the night: The Bulgarian Bar. Imagine a giant room on the second floor or a row home packed to the brim with people dancing to a mixture of Spanish and Bulargian music. That’s the Bulgarian bar. Sooooo cool! Tehre was even a mosh pit and crowd surfing. And absolutley ANYTHING goes. I left with Erika and her brother and his girlfirend around 3am while Donna and Lili stayed on into the wee hours of the morning. It’s so disorienting to get out of a cab at 3am in NYC b/c so many people are still out and about it looks like it’s only midnight. There’s really no way to tell time here. It’s insane. Went down the block ot the 24hr pizza joint and there was this fight goign on. It was like something right out of the Sopranos!!

Finally crashed out around 4am

When i got up this morning (afternoon) everyone was already out in the kitchen. I quickly joined the banter and felt really relaxed and comfortable. It was great. The new roomate came in while we were having breakfast (lunch) Her name is Deniz and she’s from Turkey. She seemed kind of snobby at first but actually I think it’s just that she’s really overwhelmed. She got stuck with the tinist room in our apt. /Teh thing that really sucks about the room is that the only window faces a brick wall so there’s almost no natural light in the room. And she got shafted liek me and was orignally suppsoed to be in an extra large room on the 5th floor. I can see why she was pissed! I got a total sense of dejavu watchign her move in. Exactly a week ago that was me! And now here i was on the other end of it, feelign comfortable, not the odd one out new-kid. I tried my best to make her feel welcome but it was Donna who really smoothed things along. Donna lived in the room last year, so she helped Deniz figure out ways to maximize the small space. And Donna just has a way of making you feel comfortable. She’s really awsome.

Deniz agreed to getting a kitten!! I’m so excited 🙂

Today has been pretty good. I got more stuff for the room and started cleanign again cause it’s gotten really cluttered in the past week and all my posters fell down. But now i’ve got thumbtakcs instead of sticky tack so I’ve been rehanging them. Talked to Meghan tongiht. I’m going to San Francisco in a couple weeks!!!

Tomorrow I’m having lunch with Jeff, Claire and Scott since he’s in town. Should be fun 🙂 Anyhoo that’s basically it. Things are starting to come together now.
