Hey darlin, do’ya gamble?

"Aloneness is a state of being, whereas loneliness is a state of feeling. It’s like being broke and being poor. I feel aloneness all the time, but I hardly ever feel loneliness during the day."

Looks like I’m hitting the road again, though to where, I can’t be certain. Not at this point. If you asked me where I was going a year ago I would have been able to tell you exactly where, why, and how…though I never would have done it. But now that I’ve thoroughly worn out my welcome here, and have no other choice but to leave, I haven’t the slightest idea where I’m going. Back down south? The mountains of Tennessee perhaps; rolling green, and misty church steeples. The northwest maybe, to chisel a little american dream out of the cliffs overlooking the pacific ocean. But the more I dwell on it, the more I keep coming back to the same place, over and over again– Alaska. I can not seem to shake the call of the wild, and the overwhelming sense of destiny, like I was quite literally born to be there. Everything, from the cold, to the vastness, to the isolation, to it’s perch on the top of the world simply begs me to come. The Bering sea will be mine! I’m quite certain I could be a fisherman, and quite desperate to try it. Either way, whichever direction I happen to set out in, it’s been far too long since I’ve been able to indulge in the perpetual excitement of not knowing what’s around the next corner…or who.

You’re leaving already? I thought you still had months. What happened? Text me if you can’t call.

I hope you’ll be utterly amazed at what’s waiting for you. And I hope you’ll send me a post card when you get there.

Alaska? Hmm. Lovely in the summer. All the verdant daylight one could ask for. In the winter? Well, I’d rather be sipping mojitos somewhere sandy and scented with spice. Have you considered cloistering yourself behind the Redwood Curtain? The NorCal coast was always very good to me. Just enough adventure, without the 20 foot snowdrifts.

And do, for a moment, put yourself in my place regarding your username. “Oh look! Some awestruck admirer has commented on my shameless attention grab of an entry! Whatever might they say? Oh….*crumple*” Very anti-climatic, indeed.

I’ve always wanted to go there. I hope you are able to make it.

Makes me think of Into the Wild. Even though I haven’t the slightest clue as to what you look like, what your general hobbies & ambitions & hopes & goals & interests are, I can imagine you as a fisherman. Or a man in Alaska. The last time I set out like this, I ended up in Europe for two years. I envy the feeling you must be having.
