NoJoMo #2 (er, #1)
I’ve been going back and forth in my head over whether I want to attempt to commit to NoJoMo again this year. And really, I wanna try. Maybe it’ll get me back in the habit of posting regularly. I’m hoping to see more updates from my faves, as well. 🙂
Today MIL came over and we did our crazy cleaning thing. lol It’s so helpful to have her so close! We cleaned the living room (including mopping, which I NEVER do) and the kitchen almost 100%. We also did a bit of picking up leaves, and we hauled wood down to outside the back door. Poor Mal was cranky, so I didn’t get a whole lot done myself, but I did enough. lol
I took Mal to the store and went Christmas shopping for the boys. This year their big present is going to be a dress-up trunk with lots of clothes in it. So…I hit the nice 50% off Halloween costumes. I got 2 cape and mask sets, a cowboy set (hat, badge, and bandana), a doctor costume, an inmate costume, and an Iron Man costume all for $37. Not bad. 🙂 I want to get (and make) a few more pieces, and I really wanna try the Halloween shops that will be closing this week, but I just don’t know if I’m going to make it or not. MIL took Xander tonight, so maybe I’ll try and go tomorrow morning with just Jaime and Mal.
I got the invoice from the apartment complex…and we might be going to court. :/ I just don’t know what to do. Not only did they charge us over $1000 to replace the carpet (which they SAID was only 6 months old when we moved in, but OMG it was NASTY…I’ll get to that in a minute), but also $200 to clean the apartment (even though we cleaned everywhere except the bathroom, almost the whole house was marked as dirty), and $250 for excessive marks on the wall. Yeah…I’m sure it cost you $250 to paint over some marks when you were painting the walls ANYWAY. *sigh* So the carpet…I’m stupid. They gave us a little sheet to fill out when we first moved in. Now, I wasn’t thinking of it in terms of covering my own butt…I was thinking it was a service request type thing. So we marked things that were wrong with the apartment that needed fixing. I didn’t mark down that the carpet was dirty, because honestly I was thinking it was a GOOD thing…I figured if the carpet was that old and nasty, they would replace it after we moved, anyway, and we wouldn’t have to worry about our messy kids. I definitely didn’t want them replacing it and then have to worry about my kids on brand new carpet. So I didn’t mark it down. And now they’re saying it was only 6 months old, which there’s just no way…but of course I have no proof of it being dirty, and since it wasn’t marked on the paper, they’re saying there’s nothing I can do. Thing is…they’re jerking me around. I asked about the breakdown of charges for the cleaning of the apartment – she said they contract it out, so I said well you have to have an invoice from where you paid them…and she refused to give me one. She said they’re "standard charges" and that she couldn’t release that information to me, but she’d make it available to the judge if we go to court. Seriously? WTF. What that really means is that they hired some immigrant to clean the whole place for $50 and are pocketing the other $150 (and I can say that because I know how this place operates and I know people who’ve worked for them…of course, I can’t technically PROVE it, but whatever). Same with the marks…I told her I wanted a detailed invoice from the painting company. I also told her I need an invoice of the actual price of installing the carpet, because she said the invoice they sent me was already pro-rated, and there’s no way. That’s the only thing I’m actually apparently getting from them. I’m so angry and I have no idea what to do. 🙁 Honestly I don’t know if it’s worth going to court, because without proof (and all I really have are witnesses, and who knows if that matters at all, probably not) I doubt I have any kind of case. It’s so stupid…that they can just trample on people like this!! I don’t know…my name wasn’t even on the lease because of the stupid way they calculate income, so technically only Wes’ credit will get screwed up if we don’t pay, but I don’t want that crap over my head. Stupid stupid stupid.
Onto better things, I finished knitting my first pair of socks this morning and they’re sooooo awesome. I don’t want to ever wear anything but knit socks ever again! I’m thinking of making everyone socks for Christmas, but I’m not sure how to size them without coming out and telling people what I’m doing. We’ll see. Anyway, I think I’m going to go start myself another pair now. lol
