All Good Things

Today has been such a busy, awesome day! We started the day by getting up early and driving way the heck out to the other side of the middle of nowhere from our side (about 1 hour 15 min ride) and picking up 13 chickens! They are sooo amazingly gorgeous! I’m not sure of all the breeds and such – several will probably lay blue or green eggs so I think those are some kind of Aurucana?? mix. We also have 2 barred rocks (1 of which we’re about 90% sure is a rooster – still a bit too young to tell for sure) and a bunch of other multi-colored beauties. We even have a gray one that looks JUST like a pigeon (whose name is Pidgey, of course, lol). It was…interesting…sticking 13 chickens into 2 boxes in the back of my Escape, but they’re all here. 😀 I went and just sat in the coop for a little while and watched them – so neat! Not all of them are laying yet – in fact, we’re not sure if any are or not, because their coop didn’t really have nesting boxes and they weren’t really encouraged to lay in there, so if they were laying, they were doing so in the woods. lol They have to stay cooped for a week or two, anyway, to make sure they don’t run away when we let them out, so hopefully they’ll take that time to figure out the nesting boxes. We’re putting golf balls in them to help encourage them. 🙂

While we were gone, MIL got the downstairs porch paint scraped off of about half the porch and painted it. Soon we’ll be able to let the kids play in there without them coming out pink. lol She also did some general yard work – raking leaves, cleared up a bit of the side yard, ect. Once we got home, we put up our giant tire swing, which the boys are absolutely in love with. Now Wes is running Xander to MIL’s house for the night, Jaime is with them, and Mal is nursing/napping on my lap.

Tomorrow, Xander has a soccer game, and then Laura and family are coming over to hang out, sew, make cake pops, and play with the chickens. 🙂 It’s only 6pm and I’m already exhausted from this crazy day! Plus the sun is starting to go down and it’s really starting to get chilly! We still don’t have a really reliable source of heat – we haven’t filled the propane tank because it’s $450 that we just don’t have right now, we can’t really safely use the fireplace until it’s been checked and cleaned, and the baseboards are only in a few rooms, and they’re expensive to run. So…layers and blankets it is for now. lol Oh man, I’d really love to start a fire tonight. *sigh* It would just be the perfect end to this day.

Ok, gonna try to go put the baby down now and maybe get SOMETHING done while Wes and the kids are gone.

I’ve always wanted to have chickens. Jesse’s parents and grandpa have them and I think it would be so neat!
