So my trip to Christchurch was….an adventure. Yes, we’ll go with that.
The drive down was a mess really. Usually Ali and I go like crazy, trying not to stop. Takes about 4.5 hours that way, max. Well, I counted on 5 hours. After major car sickness from my darlings, we ended up taking 6+ hours all up. Ella was sick 5 times, Anna 4….and me 1 REALLY bad time. I was so dizzy I ended up sitting on a picnic table in the rain in the middle of the Lewis Pass trying to get my head to stop spinning, while still heaving and trying to reassure my Ella who was upset mommy was so sick.
The visits were lovely, though I did get a bit homesick. Seeing the devastation up close in Christchurch was utterly heartbreaking. Different than seeing it on the news for sure, when I go to where I used to work and see building being demolished up and down the street, as well as sooo many empty lots. Made me cry.
Anyway, the drive back was good for the girls, I decided it was better for them to have some motion sickness pills than to get that sick again in a matter of days, so they got half a pill each and it worked a charm. Too bad I couldn’t take any, I was sick a few times. So lame, we were driving in the dark and I felt like I was in the Twilight zone. I was so tired, I could barely focus, then there were the dark, windy roads and the lights zooming past. I’m pretty sure those were reflectors, but in my haze I just kept thinking runway lights. It was a miserable few hours for me anyway. Ali was so good, very patient and sweet. It was a blessing to make it home, I was so glad to fall into bed and sleep!!
The next morning I had to get up toooo early for my crappy night, but it was for a good cause, as I FINALLY got to see my dear friend Kiri and her daughter, whom I haven’t seen since we left Chch, nearly 2 years ago!! Shocking. But we are the same as ever, it was so great to catch up and chat. Again, made me homesick though. She did mention that coming up after baby was a possibility, so I can hope!! Super bonus was that she brought clothes for both girls AND a trike for them! They had so much fun playing, and Ella was SO SAD when Kiri’s daughter left.
In other news, I went to the midwife today, and I’m SO excited, because I’m getting set up to solve 2 of my worst problems at the moment. 1, my midwife wants me to go in for an iron transfusion, since my iron levels have now dropped to a 6, despite my efforts to take pills and liquid. So hopefully doing that next week, and I am SO hopeful this will help. My mom assures me she didn’t have any side effects when she has had it done, so fingers crossed.
2 is getting the referral to get my belly support belt. I get such pain sometimes, I just need that extra support. Can’t wait.
So fingers crossed by this time next week I’ll have those things organised and will start feeling like a human being again!!
In mommy news, Anna changed overnight…I swear all of a sudden she is moving and acting like a kid rather than a toddler. It is rather surreal, though I can only watch with love and pride as she matures. She is so beautiful!! 🙂 And Ella is saying more and more, today she was saying whole sentences to grandma, who was suitably impressed! She is also learning her colours and her numbers very well, and LOVES showing this off. I love when she is praised, as she throws her hands in the air, jumps up and down and yells YAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!! While grinning like crazy. Aw, I love my babies.
Also, had some lovely quality time with hubby today, as grandma took the girls this morning, so I could have a couple hours to myself, then go to the midwife alone. Meant that when Ali came home for lunch I got him all to myself! I love those rare and precious times!! <3 Love my hubby.
Anyway, girls are asleep and I’m fading fast, so I had better end this. Will try to get back into writing more, now that my schedule is a bit clearer for a while!!!
Oh my goodness, throwing up while pregnant is not fun… And I had to have a support belt too, they are magic! Your girls sound adorable! I’m really looking forward to seeing those milestones with my own. ryn: Thank you so much for your support. 🙂 I will definitely be giving all the info I can to the police today. And Jake has offered to bring me to the library, but I sent him on his own to

drop books back, it was easier.. He brought me to the store this morning though, which was great, but it’s awkward going on a family trip every time I want to go somewhere, so I just want to get this sorted out asap. Thanks again. 🙂 x

So sorry that you had to endure being car sick! Ugh. I always get motion sickness, so I feel for you!! Glad that you still get great moments with your husband and kids. That’s the best part! 🙂 And I hope the iron transfusion works well and you get your support belt.

Sounds like a wonderful break away, despite the motion sickness. Big hugs.

Wow that’s horrible travel sickness. Do you usually get it? I have only had it while pregnant, but not to the throwing up stage. I can’t imagine the devastation 🙁 Hope the interventions really work for you!!

ryn- That note was so incredibly sweet, it made me smile from ear to ear. 🙂 You know what, I really am content. I am happier than I have been in a long, long time. I’m where I need to be. And looking at my sweet angel’s face, it is very difficult not to be motivated. I will do whatever it takes to make her life the very best it can be. 🙂 As for taking notes on parenting? Girl, I look to you 🙂
