We Have A New Family Member!!

Here she is!

Her name is Cera.  She’s 6 years old, we think, and was given up by a family and almost put down by the county shelter before the dachshund rescue folks got her.

She’s basically black and tan, but dappled.

she's got a dappling in her left eye's iris.

My son: 130 lbs.  Dodger: 30.5 lbs.   Cera:  11.5 lbs.

She just arrived today (Saturday) at 1 pm.  When the rescue lady left, there was whining and going to the door. So, we may have some separation anxiety tonite.  Right now, Cera has sacked out on Sweety’s lap, so Sweety can do her studying.

She is very very sweet tho — she walks up to you and rolls over so you can rub her belly.  We’re just hoping that Dodger isn’t too much of a stuck-up asshole about eventually accepting her.

She’s very very sweet, and will lick your face if you get close enough and let her.  Oddly, she’s not much for licking hands.   Also, she doesn’t appear to be a total foodhund like Dodge and Blue before her.  She turned down a bit of carrot (which Dodger happily did away with), and some kibble.  So, I’ve made some special food for her tonite, and will need to make some more brown rice.

(BTW, Jude’s custom recipe for Dog Food)
1 lb ground beef.
1-2 cups rice (white or brown)
3/4 cup mixed vegetables (frozen – peas, corn, limas, green beans – also known as succotash in some circles)
1-2 tbsp Worchestershire sauce
salt and garlic powder to taste.

*** EDIT!!!! *** Phoenix Poet alerted me to the fact that onions and garlic are bad for cats and dogs, and can induce haemolytic anemia (loss of red blood cells, can be fatal eventually).  We are so so grateful for this info – I had no idea.
********

Cook up the rice first.  Brown up the ground beef, dump in everything else, rice, veggies, spices.  Stir over medium heat to mix all the flavors.  Cool it off before giving it to any pets.

If you’re having a dog in recovery from surgery, illness or such, you might want to run the veggies thru a blender before putting them into the mix.  Or, run the whole mix thru the blender a bit after it’s cooked.

later, folks.  Sweety may have more pics on her page, if you know where that is.

love you all
-Jude

Such an adorable puppy. Love the name too. 🙂

I’ve had better luck with dog food made with barley. I also used to add brewer’s yeast – helped to keep fleas away and had some nutrients that benefitted the dogs. She’s adorable.

Hey sweetie, Darcy ^ reminded me re: brewer’s yeast – we ought to look into that. I like the idea of barley too. Thanks Darcy! and, don’t forget, if the dog is on antibiotics, add some yogurt to help that stomach flora. ~ sweety

ryn: your diary is very informative about various things. 🙂 Do you mind if I add you to my favorites? Also, thank you. I wish more people were open minded. Perhaps the world would be easier to live in?

Oh my God oh my God oh my God the doggie! THE DOGGIE! She’s so bloody cute! Look at her face! Oh my God! I effing love dogs, can you tell? She’s gorgeous!

I don’t mean to be rude but Dodger is seriously obese. Not only are you risking the breed specific back problems that come about when you allow daschunds to become overweight but you’re also risking heart disease, troubles breathing, liver and kidney failure, etc., etc. You’re taking years off of his life by overfeeding (and I’m going to assume under-exercising) him. If you love him…

…please take some steps to help him lose weight. Your new addition looks like she’s in perfect condition, please try and keep her that way.

Oh gosh, Cera is so cute! I’m so glad you all — and Dodger — have a new addition. 🙂 It took Buddy a while to get used to Merlot, but within two weeks they were fast friends. xoxo

Sweet. I’m sure they will become buddies- just give it time and give everyone equal attention. RYN: Ya- poof be gone. Lucky I hadn’t bought much yet at itunes. My one book I bought is gone and I was only half way through listening to it. A couple meditations were gone too- yet there was one it brought back. Weird. What sucks is, for some reason Napster shows all my old folders, but it shows everything as not bought so you can only listen to 30 seconds of alot of stuff. I had a LOT in that account. I sent an inquiry as to what happened. I don’t hold out much hope. I think you are allowed 3 downloads with Napster and I may have used them all up. Shit. Anywho… Have fun with the new pup- congrats!

Cera is sooo cute. I’m so happy that she has found such a wonderful home. I didn’t realize that Sweety had a diary here as well. Much love to all of you. Robin

Do you have any cat food recipes? She’s so cute! So little compared to Dodger though. I’m guessing that she’s not incredibly small, Dodger’s quite large? I’m a cat guy, I know pretty much nothing about dogs. I’m sure they’ll get along great once they get to know each other. Lots of hugs, John

Glad you could take her in.

she’s a beautiful little weenie!

so cute! yay!

RYN: I wasn’t sure if the same was true for dogs as cats, but I figured it was worth mentioning. When our Waas was sick we were accused of feeding him onions, so that’s how I know cats can’t have them (we didn’t, he only ate cat food). Lots of hugs, John
