Peaceful Transition Cookie

After a lot of discussion (and denial on my part), we called the vet who comes to the house to put Cookie down today. She has been failing for a while. She started falling when she walked and really struggled with the stairs. Linda felt fluid around her heart. She even walked away from food in the past few days.

I feel sad and guilty. She was a great dog – the rescue baby I had to have, even though at the time I had two other dogs and lived in a tiny NYC apartment in Greenwich Village (with my X). She had been terribly abused and was a frightened, scrawny 10-month old, who was not yet housebroken, when I brought her home. She quickly became part of our pack and adjusted quite well.

Cookie shortly after she was adopted. She still had haunting, soulful eyes and always looked worried.

In her prime; she grew into a beauty.

I love her sweet, peaceful face in this photo.

She became quite comfortable with herself. This was taken shortly after I moved in with Linda.

She loved catching her squishy balls by the pool. Although she was not really a swimmer, I taught her to swim towards the steps at the shallow end, so that she could get out if she fell in.

She is just starting to gray.

I never knew how she got into that chair.

Oh my gosh…I’m just so sorry and sad. It’s just unbelieveable to me. She was such a pretty dog, and she was my favorite one that you had. You were a good mom to her, and I’m glad she was rescued by you when she needed a good home. You took great care of her. I’ll miss ya Cookie!!!

I had to come back, because I’m just so sad about Cookie. I hope that you are doing ok. That dog was SO cool. I even snuck a few pics from your diary without asking because I really loved her. I’m a sucker for older dogs. She was truly in good hands and now she’s romping around painless and free. :))

I am so sorry. I know how sad it is to lose a much loved pet. Cookie was a lucky dog to have found such a wonderful home after such a traumatic start. *Hugs*

I still can’t believe that Cookie is gone. I just feel so sad. I look at Molly and think about things. I’m so sorry Jo-Ann, and I can’t stop feeling grief about the whole situation.

I am so sorry..so hard to lose such a wonderful pet…huge hugs to you…….

I’m sorry that Kody is experiencing depression. I wonder if Sampson would be that way if Molly passed on? Or vice versa. I know that we adopted Molly almost a month after Nubbs died, and it really helped us a lot. I think getting a new puppy just might be what the doctor ordered. Make sure to post lots of pics!!! :))
