America…you aren’t the best. (A shock I know)
I just changed my location and I can’t help but think how people from other countries must think I am a spoiled brat and have no right to complain about anything because I am american. I am going to have to go aginst what my profile says and write this one for the reader.
First I must defend myself. I know that a lot of people think that americans have no right to complain. With some of what other countries go through I susopse that we don’t, but please hear me out. I am one of the few americans who knows that in order for america to be the "best country" we have a lot of changing to do. Most of our country is in poverty including me.
I am all for imigration so people can have a better life, but the life they are comming into is going to be minimal. most imigrants are ilegal so they can’t even get a good job. They are forced to live in a 1 bedroom house with 6 or more people. Why do we americans even complain about imigration? Unless you are 100% native american you are an imigrant.
America is conseded and thinks it is better then everyone. Well guess what. You aren’t. I was born and raised in america and I can’t spell for shit, I have loose morals, and I have no health care plan (wich means I have no health care).
When is the great old USA going to humble its self and realize that money isn’t power? Compasion and helping your fellow man is.
We think people bomb us we because we are better, but in all reality it is because we think we are better. 6 year olds in other countries are working over time jobs just to eat and here we have 16 year old brats haveing ipods and bran new cars. Having a very minute portion of your population have everything their hearts desiers doesn’t make them better. I makes them selfish.
I am never going to be rich. that doesn’t mean that I am not going to work hard and if I get a permotion I am not going to take it. It means that if I do manage to get a good chunk of money it is going to go to the poor. I might even open a shelter that helps people get good jobs, or pay for their health care. A lot of corperations don’t help the poor because there is no money in it. Well guess what. Money doesn’t get you friends and respect or power. Kindness does.
Think about it. If I had Bill Gates money and use all but what I needed to survive to help give people a better life who will have the most power? I will have the respect and gratitiude of over 70% of the nation. All Bill Gates will have is a big pile of money to hide his greedy ass in.
I guess my conclusion would be that America is on dangerous ground. If you bully someone into liking you they will turn on you the the first chance they get. If you just do nonselfish things and some one happens to support you then they are with you forever.
You aren’t the best because you shot someone if they say you aren’t. You will be the best when you accept everyone as a person just like you, and strive to make their life better in anyway you can, and support thier differneces. Whether they are poor, hindu, gay, black, or (god forbid) not american.
Random noter here. I saw this on the OD front page. I think you have more moral strength than you think. Being moral is not about being a pious, smug, self-satisfied asshole as some people seem to think. You are on the right road. <{:0)

I understand what you’re saying. I have been to the States a few times, met a lot of decent people there; but there is an enormous knowledge gap and some very strange ideas about other countries. I wouldn’t ever want to live there.

Sadly most are driven by greed, especially the CEO’s of companies who simply steal their companies blind.
