London and Carol Ann Duffy
Went to uni of london for english lit study day. woo. it was good actually. i had a good day. we got lost to start with. emily nearly got runover…she is really nervous in cities and panicked SO bad, lol. we had to drag her out of the building at lucnh time, lol. but anyway, had a couple of lectures from the chief examiner. MAN, she was scary. her name is Stella. She’s already scary, just from the name. I wanna do well in english just so she doesnt come and hunt me down. Then this dude came on to talk about “Ol’ Shakey” or Shakespeare to normal people. He was HILARIOUS! i loved him. and i actually learnt a bit that may help me, lol. then some other woman rambled about what everyone does wrong.
Then Carol Ann Duffy read. MY GOD! her poetry is meaningful, thoughtful, deep and SO SO interesting to read. BUt she is SO fucking boring. her voice is incredibly monotonous. ive never studied her work but after hearing her before i looked up and read some of her work and i was fascinated. but i cannot force myself to listen to that woman. i understand that she isnt a performance poet and that she tries to keep emotion of of the way she reads so that the audience will apply their own interpretation and creat their own ideas, but, her lack of emotion just means i find it difficult to maintain concentration. Joe, the boy i spent all day with got so angry. he was talking about shooting her, lolol. i fell asleep for about 1 minute on his shoulder while she was talking…or droning…but luckily i woke up again lol. my teach saw me tho and laughed at me hehe.
anyway, im having a poetry night and reading through some of her work. have a lot of hilarious stories from today. New favourite words “todger” for willy *giggles* and “scrote” for man sac *giggles even more*
my lordy had a fun day.
I have a new favourite quote. It is so strange that i started listening to Carol Ann Duffy at the point she said this line…or lines…i dunno how it’s set out…
“We all have wishes, granted. But how many of us have wishes granted?”

Good old shakey. I’m impressed that other people apart from me call him shakey. Sounds funtastic, I hope my day in London’s that interesting.
Warning Comment
I like her poetry, light, nice. Never thought of it as extremely striking though.
