“A” is for Apple…

 …and "O" is for OUCH!!

What a month!  Becoming my son’s primary teacher has proven to be quite the challenge and experience.  Wesley continues to show improvement in his academics but his behaviors are still, somewhat, an issue.  The week before last was just horrendous.  Talk about a test in patience…it took every ounce of control to keep from bouncing him off the wall!  This week, however, he’s been right on task and very cooperative.  I made the mistake of allowing him to drink some cranberry juice and I’m almost willing to bet, that was part of the cause if his bad behavior the previous week.  He can drink 100% fruit juice without a problem but the cranberry juice always has added sugar in it – sometimes even dyes – and I forgot about that.

I had an IEP (Individual Education Program) meeting with William’s teachers, on the phone, last Thursday.  They all agree he has need for an IEP, but, because he’s now in the right environment for learning, they really don’t have to make that many accommodations for him.  He’ll be given more time to complete assignments so he’s not dealing with time constraints, and when he has to go for his OAA (Ohio Academic Achievement) tests, he’ll be given frequent breaks.  Someone will sit with him to make sure he stays on task and gets it completed.  I just worry he’s going to throw himself into a huge panic attack when he finds out that I won’t be there with him.

His special education teacher said he’s the smartest kid in her group and she’s very pleased with his improvements.  I’m so proud of him I could squish him to death!!

In Social Studies, he had to use a list of ingredients and tools to design his own company.  He had to decide if he was going to use them to sell a ‘good’ or ‘service’ and had to indicate whether it was a ‘want’ or a ‘need’.  He then had to give a title for the product and list all of the Human, Capital and Natural resources needed to run his business.   It was pretty obvious from the start that most of the ingredients were for Rice Krispie treats.  Duh!  He named his product "Krispi-Chews".  When he was explaining how he’d advertise his product, he said, "I’ll make a commercial and somebody will say, ‘I want a Krispi-Chew!’ and then somebody else will say, ‘God bless you!’ because when you say Krispi-Chew really fast, it sounds like you’re sneezing."  LOL!  Yeah, my kid is smart.

This month will mark 27 years since my husband and I met.  We met on the Eve of St. Patrick’s Day and we’ve been together ever since.  I don’t know about "Luck of the Irish" but this lady is a pretty lucky German.  🙂

I have to keep this short.  At present, I’m under the influence of some pretty awesome pain killers.  Apparently, I aggravated my lower back again.  I had Liz drive me to the hospital last night  – the pain was unbearable.  The official diagnosis is: "Acute lower lumbar inflammation resulting in sciatic nerve pressure."  Isn’t that lovely?

I have Vicodin and muscle relaxers to take for the pain, and I have to rest as much as possible.

Just what I need…an excuse to be lazy again!  Sheesh!

Well, I’m out of here.  My head is floating about two inches from the ceiling and I’m about to flop over.  I wish you all well.  I really miss all of you and reading your diaries.  I’ll be back more regularly once Summer break starts.

(((hugs)))

Until next time….

Be well, my friend.

Glad he’s doing better aside from the Cranberry juice incident.

Cranberry juice is really too tart w/out sugar. Sorta like straight lemon juice.

Terrific that he is doing so well

I just finished Taylor’s IEP. Colin’s was a few months ago. Sean’s should be coming up soon. I should put in for jobs that entail IEP’s. I’ve been doing them for 17 years. ST Pats is a wonderful day for anything 🙂

Been a while, so I thought I’d give you one of these. 🙂

I only teach my children in the summer. It is a ton of work. I had that type of back pain when pregnant with my youngest child. I went to a chiropractor because it was the only thing that worked.
