[2 Weeks] Sick
Apparently I would be 43 weeks pregnant today. Haha. Glad that’s not the case!
Instead I have a two week old who I take a LOT of photos of…
So I’m sick. While pregnant I always had a fear of getting mastitis during breastfeeding and it happened by the time she was two weeks old! Last Friday night, I wore a nursing bra to bed for the first time, trying to get control of the leaking a little bit (I always end up leaking all over me and Adelaide and it sucks!), and woke up with a plugged duct. I was SO hoping it didn’t get infected but within a couple of hours I was sitting on the couch freezing, shaking my ass off, even with a couple of blankets and the baby and a cat on me. My temperature was around 100.9 all day and I read if it got to 101.3 for 24 hours I should call the dr.
I hot compressed it all day, took a hot bath and massaged it, the baby nursed all day as usual. I did nothing but sit and watch TV all day and by the mid-afternoon it seemed my fever was going away so I was hoping I was in the clear. Then I woke up Sunday morning, asked Jonathan to watch the baby so I could take a bath, got up and started walking to the bathroom, and felt like I was actually literally dying. I collapsed back in bed, Jonathan asked if I wanted to call the midwife, and I was like, "Yes, I am dying". I took my temperature and it was 103.6 so I called the midwife and she went "Holy Moly!", told me to take Motrin every four hours and Tylenol in between until my antibiotics kicked in, and called in my prescription right away. I had Jonathan pick up probiotics too because I really really want to avoid getting thrush on top of this.
Anyway…mastitis makes you SICK. It’s not just that my boob feels like it’s going to burn off of my body. I feel like I have a terrible flu. My body aches all over, my head hurts, my tummy kinda aches. It’s pretty lame. I haven’t really been able to do anything and my house has absolutely fallen apart. It’s seriously like crazy messy right now. Clothes and shoes and dog toys and just…STUFF everywhere.
I also can’t take my placenta capsules with mastitis so I’m emotional and just bleh. Really getting affected by it getting dark so early. It didn’t bother me as much when I was able to take them…kind of makes me wish I could take placenta capsules forever, lol…
That reminds me of a dream I had that my doula came over with my placenta capsules, and among a bunch of other crazy stuff, she wanted "her cut" of the capsules. I gave them to her and then later was like, "Why the hell does she want to consume MY placenta?".
I’m still having so many crazy dreams, super vivid like when I was pregnant. I don’t know if that’s normal postpartum or if maybe it’s the placenta capsules still putting certain hormones in my body?
Baby is waking up finally. She’s been passed out for like 4 hours!
Ack! That sounds awful. Get better soon, lady. And my lord your baby is gorgeous! So wide eyed and that neck strength… wow! Seems she couldn’t wait for a look at the world

Mastitis seems so awful!!!! I found wearing a nursing tank or a special nursing sleep bra, with a trifolded infant prefold shoved in was the ONLY way to not leak all over everything overnight until Luke was almost 3 months. It’s a little awkward looking but, hey, it works!
