Aloha Friday

Aloha from a very wet… and very windy southern coast of Oregon…

This is day three of a pretty good storm… the ocean is extremely turbulent… huge swells and wave heights to ten feet hitting the rocks just off shore…

The beaches are covered with drift wood… and not just small pieces of wood… but logs as thick as four feet… and some as long as twenty feet…

Lots of coastal flooding which is to be expected… yet I am awestruck when I see pictures of it…

I’m doing okay… my home is about 200 feet in elevation above sea level… but there is always a threat of flooding (what with water runoff)  with the heavy rain…

Ironically the temperature is quite warm for this time of year… 50-60f during the day… and the high 40s at night…

I cleaned the gutters and downspout guards earlier today… so I feel somewhat at ease as far as the house is concerned…

Well… another aloha Friday… lots of football on t/v this weekend… and when the rain lets up… I’m off to the beach again…

I hope you have a fun and safe weekend…

Thanks for drifting by… and for your notes to me…

Me ke aloha…

I’m glad the ocean can’t throw those logs into your yard.

@sleepygene My yard is safe… but the same can’t be said for people close to the beach…

@mauijim People buy houses on the beach and think they can command the tide not to erode their property away. The ocean laughs with multi-ton logs.

@sleepygene Absolutely…!

Oregon has always been my favourite place to visit in the US. Beautiful scenery and as long as I’m looking at them from a distance, ocean storms are awesome.

@wren Yes… of course my view of the ocean storms is a bit closer… (smiles)

Enjoy the football. We will too!

@dlk082244 Yes… a good weekend to be an NFL fan…!

Where do the logs come from I wonder? Care to share which team you are pulling for?

January 20, 2018

@petersshadow We experienced the Chetco Bar fire during the summer… lots of trees have come down… then floated down the Chetco and Winchuck rivers to the ocean…

A long time 49er fan… I guess the Vikings are whom I will be rooting for…

How about you…?

@mauijim Life time Bear sufferer here. Once again, Super Bowl will be about the commercials.

I bet it is beautiful there.

@zhnee Yes… one of the things I like most about living here… is that the forest comes right down to the ocean… spectacularly beautiful…
