This is Not a Drill
Hubby and I were happily doing our part to stomp out Mountain Cedar on our property in the hill country of Texas, when I took both of our phones up to our observation deck in hope of getting some cell phone service. That’s when I saw the group texts going wild between my husband’s partners. One of Hubby’s partners was on Oahu with her husband and two kids when they got the alert to Get Inside!
So by the time we were reading the group-texts from Hubby’s partners, we realized that the threat was not real. Hubby wanted to reply on the group text the comment,”so did you and [husband] have end of the world sex?” I talked Hubby down from joining another reason to be a part of “Me Too.” – Which I am a supportor of, just not wanting my husband to be a catalyst. ????
So, Hubby did not say the punch line that he wanted to, but then tonight Stephen Colbert did it for him. The exact same phrase about the exact same situation – “end of the world sex!”

Overlooking for a moment how loudly it speaks that the alert was taken as real, perhaps the best news story to come out of Hawaii was the man who called his family from the golf course to say, “I love you all dearly – but I’m gonna keep golfing!”

I was busy doing things at work (making up for the Ice Day the day before) so I wasn’t paying attention to news or social media. My first awareness of this whole mess was a call from my oldest son who’s in the Army and stationed over there that started with “Hey Moms, I just wanted to let you know we’re all safe. It was a false alarm.”
