One Day More…

I’m less than 24 hours away from my flight and I’d be lying if I tried to say that I wasn’t freaking excited.

Less than a day away from blowing this frozen pop stand for warmer climes…  and better company.

I can tell my Dad is excited as well, and it’s not because he’s lonely. From what I can tell he’s apparently met some great people and is getting along with his new neighbors very well. My Dad was always a very social guy, and I inherited that from him. We could both walk into a room full of strangers, and by the end of the night leave with a boatload of new friends. We have the gift of gab and can work a room like no one’s business. How neither of us made our way into politics remains a total mystery…

I haven’t seen Dad since early November, and it will be nice to have a full week and two days to hang out and have some quality time. While he wants to run around and do some cool things, I’m looking forward to just hanging out and vegging just as much as I am hitting some tourist spots. I’ve already made it clear I want to spend at least one morning/day on a beach… doing nothing but relax. He said that’s cool, but it also looks like trips to Lego Land and Disney World are also happening.

This is also the first time I’ve spend the holidays with my Dad in almost five years. I think my Dad is excited about this as well. This will also be Dad’s second holiday without mom. Last year my brother Chris spend the holiday with Dad in Nashville, and now I’m doing it to keep him company. Yeah, taking a bit hit traveling to Florida, eh?

On a different note, I took Ethan to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi yesterday and it was pretty cool. Not the end all be all of film, or even of the SW franchise, but I thought it was better than Force Awakens. Ethan had a great time, as did my brother who is a huge Sci-fi nut. I guess that’s what counts in the end. The critic in my would give it a 7/10… but that’s just me. I’m a big a film snob. My Dad went to see this weekend too, aware that I was already taking Ethan, so if we hit a cinema next week, we have Star Wars already taken care of. I’d rather see something else with Dad anyway, maybe that Three Billboards movie or that new one with Denzel Washington.

I got some packing to do, so I must bugger off. Unless I get access to wi-fi at the airport, this will be my last entry before I land in Florida. I look forward to posting pics, sharing details of my adventures and what not. Feels good to have OD here again to document all that stuff again.

Until then, happy Monday everyone!

Peter

making friends is a great skill. I like to find the person in the crowd who isn’t interested in small talk and get down to the meat of a conversation.
