Wordless Stanza
I stood in his door way,
watching him write inside his invisible journal,
both hands placed on his head,
eyes cast down looking past his empty glass desk.
He mumbled,
“I don’t
not want to be crazy!”
What…?
“I didn’t say anything.”
You said, “I don’t want to be crazy.”
“No, I didn’t. That doesn’t even make sense.”
He sounded so convincing that I believed him.
I watched him stare off into the distance,
drift off into his own private existence.
Yet he continued to write in his diary,
I wonder if his words written down were the same as his
thoughts running around inside his mind.
A moment passes,
& I too become lost.
When I return, no one is there.
No one was ever there …
