Members Only content
Why is the picture that goes with this a bunch of rocks? I’m not sure, but maybe it’s a pile of all the different people here at OD 🙂
I’m glad to announce that this morning we have rolled out options to make your entries and your diary Members Only (if you want). What does this mean?
- Members Only simply means that anything with that setting will only be seen by other OD members, who are logged into the site. Once the site is public, I expect this will be the most popular setting – meaning, any random person who comes to OD and sees the front page (or accesses any other page) will not see Members Only content.
- The setting can be applied to an entry – you will find it in the options dropdown under visibility, along with Public, Friends, and Private. Just like other entry privacy, you can mix Members Only entries with Private or FO or Public entries, the system will only display the appropriate entries depending on who is trying to view them.
- You can also set your entire diary to Members Only – which means it can only be viewed by a logged-in member of OD.
This is IMPORTANT:
There are a set of switches at the top of the home page that look like this:
Notice that the one that says “Members” is off – please be sure to switch that to on (like the other three in the picture), or you will not see Members Only content! If you haven’t tried these switches out, they are for filtering front page content, so you can choose what you want to see on the front page.
Please give it a try and test it out – the way to tell something is MO is if you can’t see it before you’ve logged into OD.
Also, thanks everybody for the responses on me last entry about endless notifications – we are working on a solution to this that will let you click something and clear your notifications, once that’s live it should take care of it.
Thanks again to all of you!

I think this is awesome! Thanks! Oh and as a side note, I just realized what those toggle switches are for, today, while sitting in the doctors office. I really like those!

Ok, I get it. I understand why it will take some time to get all the bugs worked out and to make OD public. The holidays disrupt routines and so many routines are disrupted by life in general. Thanks for the update and Sleepy Gene does have a good question about how everyone at OD now are members aren’t they?
I like your pile of rocks and really like the little red one in the upper right.

Bring back Theme of the Week! That is all… 😝

I’m loving the new place! The toggles are awesome, and I’m glad to see Members Only will be a choice. 🤓

I’m calling BS.
What if a non-member toggles on the Members switch? What do they see? All my Members-Only entries?
@sleepygene – actually, they won’t see any Members Only posts. If it’s somebody who is not a member though (and maybe this is the point you are making) they shouldn’t even see the switch. So maybe we will set it up that way.
@thediarymaster I had a different point. I’m suggesting the Members toggle should just show Members, the way the Friends toggle just shows your Friends. It’s more intuitive. And it’s a more useful feature (in my humble but well-reasoned opinion).

Ah, water rocks all nice and smooth. My son and I used to turn rocks and make them smooth.
Thank you for the “distructions.” (That’s usually how things work for me.)

Ooh, thanks! I’ll have to check that out.
If I change my diary to Members Only, that will mean that any entries that might be set to Public will automatically get ‘downgraded’ to Members Only, correct? Or do I need to try and hunt down all the entries and manually switch them?

Also, I have to agree with others that I find the toggles very confusing, especially when you have more than one on or off. Do they use AND logic? OR logic? What precisely are they filtering on? Is this documented somewhere?

One last question –
If my diary is MO and I leave a note on a public entry, does that mean non members can see my note/user name/picture? I would really prefer nobody knows I exist if they are not members.
