Nanowrimo Update: Day 30
Today marks the end of National Novel Writing Month, and as you can see from the previous entry I posted about Nanowrimo, I already verified my word count and am a winner for the 12th straight November. I look forward to doing it a 13th time next year.
Today I have something extra special to celebrate, as I bested a few personal records. Prior to 2017, the quickest 50K I wrote was 24 days. Now my fastest 50K is 12 days. That was pretty awesome.
The biggest word count I had prior to 2017 was 57,000 words and change. Yesterday, my word count passed 80,000, which means this year’s nano is the biggest one yet. Another personal best. No guarantee I’ll ever do that much in one month again, but it won’t be for a lack of trying. I’ll try to break both of these personal bests every year.
While I was looking forward to meeting up with writers later tonight to celebrate, my participation has been cancelled. Friday is PD day in Hamilton, which means there’s no school. Leah and I have an unwritten rule that if there’s ever a PD day, whatever week our schedule is on we get that person or persons for one extra day. I have both boys this weekend, so I get them both for an extra day. So while it cancels the plans I had for Thursday, it’s not the end of the world. I never say no to extra time with my boys, and maybe I’ll do something with them to celebrate the end of Nanowrio… perhaps chocolate mint ice cream and a movie? We shall see…
But this brings another Nano to an end, and the streak goes on. I started participating in 2006, and I haven’t missed my 50K since. This is a fun month for me now, and I look forward to it. Not only cause of the interaction with other writers, but because I get extra work done in a short span of time. I still do a lot of writing outside of November, but I like the added boost my work gets whenever it comes around.
The new book this month produced is already in the hands of my most trusted readers. It is being combed for errors and vetted thoroughly. When they are finished reading it over, I will go over mistakes and notes and spend a good portion of December doing revisions. Once that’s finished, I will set a date in January and the new book will be out sooner rather than later. I can’t wait, this was such a fun book to write!
So that brings a busy November to a close. Can you believe 2017 is almost over?
Bring on 2018!
Peter
Congrats on the win! I haven’t done NaNo in ages, but I do still follow one of the Facebook groups, which can be entertaining.
Warning Comment
I have considered NaNoMo but haven’t done it.
