Typical Work Day
9:00AM – Been at work for an hour. Carey called. Wants to know if I want to extend my contract, possibly on a month-to-month basis. Not sure how I feel about that? Kris (boss) will have discussion about me going permanent with them soon. I’m not sure how I”m feeling about all of this. At all.
Also working on an annoying bug that I can’t seem to reproduce. If I can’t reproduce the bug, I can’t study it. If I can’t study it, I can’t find what’s wrong and thus can’t fix it.
Sent email to Carey expressing my concerns about extending my contract. How would I be able to job hunt while having a job? How would I interview? It seems… slightly disrespectful to job hunt (actively) while employed.
I am soooooo conflicted. 9:11AM. lol. This day will be long.
My cubicle neighbor is replacing his frayed arm pads on his chair with another chairs. Kinda funny and ingenius.
9:30AM – I must be crazy for wanting to turn this job down. Health benefits, paid time off, pension plans, more money, easy work, why don’t I want to stay here? I just don’t know what to do. I have so very little time to figure it out.
9:45AM – WHAAAAAAAAAAAT AM I GOING TO DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?!?!??
10:10AM – I suppose I should play out the scenarios in my head. What would happen if I stayed at CACI? I could keep saving up for my financial goals without any temporary setbacks. I could start saving up vacation time for my goals. I could forget seeing my friends any time soon.
10:45AM – Neither of my direct bosses have come in yet today. I want one of them to come in so I can tell them that I can’t reproduce these bugs. Until then I’m kinda stuck just… sitting here trying to reproduce bugs for the 4000th time. They’re either sleeping in today, or just not coming in at all… lol
11:00AM – Well neither boss has shown up. Guess I’m just going to mess around on programr.com until lunch. =
11:10AM – Finally fixed a bug in my code on programr.com lol. SAd that I’m not working at work, but WHERE THE HELL ARE MY BOSSES?!??
12:00PM – Boss finally came in to work. lol. Going to ambush her with questions about this bug.
12:30PM – Well after talking to my boss, she wants me to talk to the tester to see if there’s anything special she did to break the program. If not,… we’ll go with basically saying “I give up, cannot reproduce bug to fix it”
1:54PM – Got a ticket to work on. Sort order is wrong on search results. Gotta go make sure the code alphabetizes or sorts in numeric order. Yay.
3:15PM – Bug was fixed. But I had to deal with the computer running really crappy for about 20 minutes. Eventually I got frustrated with it and just restarted my machine. It turns out at like 2:30PM every day my machine runs it’s antivirus scan, which lags the hell out of the machine. Why the IT guys thought 2:30PM would be a great time for a scan, I don’t know, but I am determined to shut it down every time it does that from now on. If I can’t get work done at 2:30PM, then I’ll be damned if they can get their virus scan done. “I’m taking you with me!!” I’m spiteful like that.
3:37PM – Back to coding on programr.com … heh. I wish I had more bugs to work on.
4:20PM – Last 25 minutes of work… always… go… the… slowest…
I can relate…I worked several temp jobs in the past year and now that I have a permanent one it sucks just as bad as the temp ones…no benefits low pay…just a paycheck. Blah. Hope you get to keep your job if you want it. :))
