Global Game Jam

I am wore out.

This weekend was IGDA’s 3rd annual Global Game Jam (GGJ), some friends and I decided to participate in it.

The GGJ is where a bunch of people all over the world come together and make games for 48 hours based on the central theme of the GGJ, at the end of the 48 hours, they submit their game. This year’s theme was Extinction.

Some people try to go the whole thing without sleeping. Some people stay the whole time, but sleep at their computers, etc. etc.

We didn’t stay the whole time, we went home and slept ‘n what not… but our finished product is a beautiful game.

It’s called Dream ‘scape. The story is basically this: You’re a dream. The dreamer is waking up, and the dream world is being destroyed. You want to stay alive for as long as possible so that the dreamer will remember you. So you are to avoid the moving wall of death that is his waking consciousness.

The controls are rough, there is no ending, and the menus are slapped together… but damn this game is beautiful.

And last but not least… here’s a picture of the team.. a horrible picture, as the guy said “Move closer everyone”, and then took the picture while we were moving! So we have people blinking in the picture, and Gus (far left) looks high! lol. I’m the one with the silver button up shirt (2nd from the left)

If you want to download the game, you can find it on my site in the Projects section in a little bit. I haven’t gotten it posted yet, but I will.
