Weekly Theme
“If you had to choose one object to keep safe forever, what would that object be?”
I’m very late on doing this weekly theme. But I know I have to do this one. The reason I know I have to do this one is because I immediately had the answer for the question, without even thinking about it.
My object -> My SNES with all it’s games/components.
I love that system. I got it back on Christmas of 1995. We got all sorts of things for Xmas, but that SNES was the greatest gift ever, for me. I have the best parents in the world. Before I had the SNES, I had a Sega and an NES. I’ve been a gamer my whole life. But the SNES revolutionized gaming. So did Sega, mind you, but for me, the SNES was just… geeeenius level.
My SNES. My baby. =) She goes wherever I go. I never leave her unprotected. When I went to Europe… she went to Europe… and believe me, I was afraid to plug her in over there! All that 220 voltage…
When I deployed to Iraq… I did NOT take her with me. But I did personally deliver her to my parents house, wrapped lovingly in plastic, and then put in a box all on its own.
As soon as I returned from Iraq… I retrieved her. She was ahead on the priority list than even Nicki, the woman I love.
Here’s all my games, scatter view, and organized view.
Scattered!
Organized!
Games (From Top Left, to Bottom Right)
Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire 2, Illusion of Gaia, Obitus, Lufia 1, Killer Instinct, BattleToads & Double Dragons, Final Fantasy 3, Drakkhen, Super Mario RPG, Mario is Missing, Lufia 2 (working), Sim City, NBA Playoff, The Jungle Book, Earthbound, Super Punch-Out, Wheel of Fortune, Secret of Evermore, Phantom 2040, Super Mario All-Stars, King of the Monsters 2, Legend of Zelda (Link to the Past), Lufia 2 (dead), Star Fox, Megaman X, Yoshi’s Island, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong’s Quest, Secret of Mana, Kirby Super Star, Arcade’s Greatest Hits, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Kart
The main reason I love my SNES so much was because of all the amazing RPGs they had on that system.
They made such beautiful RPGs back then. Gameplay and Story were so much better than the gameplay/stories of today.
Here are my RPGs…
So many Square games… and a few Enix ones… They were so good!
RPGs (From Top Left to Bottom Right): Lufia 1, Lufia 2, Illusion of Gaia, Breath of Fire 2, Earthbound, Legend of Zelda, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Secret of Evermore…
A couple of years after getting my SNES, the power plug for it died. I couldn’t play it anymore. I hated that idea. My Dad said all we needed to bring it back was a plug with the same voltage, because my Dad just so happens to be the most awesome Dad ever, so he knew everything.
And it just so happened that I had found a plug with the exact same voltage…
My Sega plug.
So I had to choose between my Sega or my SNES. I chose the SNES. So Dad spliced the plug and brought my SNES back to life. It was awesome.
(Months later, I found a plug with matching voltage to ressurect the Sega, so relax)
Here’s a picture of the spliced SNES power. Note the plug-in, the plug box itself says Sega, and the splice area…
With the exception of my family, this system means more to me than any person. She has been my means of escape for so many years. Every time the world or the people in it have hurt me, this system has always made me feel better.
A couple of races on Rainbow Road, or punching out Bald Bull, or fighting New Age Retro Hippies, or defeating Sigma, or building a city from scratch… that system has a game for every mood.
I love that system. I do.

I love my SNES too. I am envious of the amount of games you have. You are right, the games had such good storyline etc. Chrono Trigger, The Secret of Mana… and Final Fantasy 3. That was the game that go me started in gaming. Amazing… just amazing.

What a great answer to this theme question. The SNES was, indeed, glorious. It’s nice to meet retro gamers. Can’t you download and play the entire SNES library on the Wii now?

Re: I want to teach elementary education (K-6), I don’t care which grade I get, I’m sure the kids will be enjoyable. I’m really nervous I won’t make a very good teacher though. But I guess most of us are afraid of that. You are right, thanks for putting that into perspective. I guess I shouldn’t let rules bound me.
